Field of Dreams project needs your help


The Plainville Park Department is looking for residents interested in fundraising for the town's Field of Dreams project. Phase 1 of the project includes two Babe Ruth-sized fields, a soccer field to be seeded this spring, and a smaller practice soccer field to be graded, irrigated and seeded. Phase 2 will include two little league-sized fields, a soccer field, a snack bar, rest rooms and a maintenance building.

The Plainville PTO's online auction is still ongoing and waiting for your bid. So far, the group has received more than $12,000 in donations and new items are being added daily, including "senator for a day" with state Sen. Scott Brown, R-Wrentham, a snowblower valued at $750 from Aubuchon Hardware, autographed photographs of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and former Patriot Troy Brown, and a Plainridge Racecourse Kentucky Derby Package. Among the newest items are a youth membership at the Hockomock Area YMCA and one week at Everyday PE summer camp. Businesses still can donate items online or sponsor the auction with a cash contribution. To donate an item or place a bid, visit www.plainville.cmarket.com. The PTO's Fun Fair is scheduled for March 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Jackson School.

The town will hold a rabies clinic for cats, dogs and ferrets on Saturday, April 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Plainville fire station. The cost of the clinic is $12. Cats and ferrets must be caged and dogs must be leashed. The clerk will be at town hall during the clinic to sell dog licenses.

At the selectmen's meeting last week, selectmen were introduced to American Credit Counseling Services, a nonprofit credit counseling agency that has been in Plainville for 10 years. The agency is able to offer many of its services for free, including pulling up and analyzing credit reports.

The center is located at 4 Taunton St., Suite 5, above Dunkin Donuts and hosts a seminar from 6 to 8 p.m. on the last Tuesday of every month. Call 508-643-4445 or visit www.accs.org. To have your business featured in a five-minute "infomercial" at selectmen's meeting call 508-695-3010, ext. 11.
