SEEKONK - Selectmen said "thanks, but no thanks" on Wednesday to an offer from officials at an Attleboro wastewater plant.
The officials requested $90,000 to be put toward the design of renovations to the facility which will be undergoing upgrades mandated by the Department of Environmental Protection. Seekonk also was given the chance to reserve space at the plant for town wastewater.
However, the town was also expected to pay as much as $2 million at a later date. But selectmen did not believe the investment would be worthwhile for Seekonk.
"I don't see Seekonk connecting to this plant," said selectmen Chairman Robert Richardson.
At last week's meeting, Selectman Michael Brady expressed his doubts about the proposal, noting the investment in the Attleboro plant would become a "multi-million-dollar obligation." Brady believed the town would not end up using the facility in the future. "It will be money that will be wasted," he said.
