Crack down on litter in South Attleboro

To the editor:

Regarding the letter May 1 titled "This eyesore ought to be cleaned up," I too have observed another vacant lot on Newport Avenue, behind the Burger King and Taco Bell, that also needs a cleanup. Why do both vacant lots have so many plastic bags and roadside trash? Why has nothing been done about it yet?

Having seen this, I know that most of the unwanted debris is caused by trash falling off garbage trucks, as well as inconsiderate motorists throwing disposable items on the roads. And, because of the many fast food establishments in the area between Newport Avenue and Washington Street, South Attleboro has become a dumping ground. The time has come for each property owner to be held responsible for picking up the trash from their location, along with the City of Attleboro to find ways to stop trash falling from garbage pickups.

Fines and penalities should be imposed for non-compliance and enforced on a regular basis to owners of these establishments, absentee landlords who own abandoned lots, and fines for irresponsible motorists who ignore the law.

A win for a cleaner environment, and additional revenue for the city.

Judge US president by those who hate him

To the editor:

Since 2003, liberals have been insisting that the whole world hates us and it is George Bush's fault. So what's been going on in the world since 2005? Each of the following countries has elected a conservative government: Germany (Merkel), France (Sarkozy), Italy (Berlusconi), Canada (Harper), and even in England, liberals in many local elections have just gotten the boot, including Red Ken, the mayor of London, who hobnobs with radical Islamists when he is not condemning Israel.

Predictions are that the liberal British Labour Party may just get the boot, too, in the next national election. Much of Africa and almost all Eastern Europe also love President Bush.

Could the liberals be wrong? Well, only in part. There are some countries that do hate us because of the president. All of them are run by either murderous Communist thugs (Venezuela), former murderous Communist thugs (Russia), or murderous Muslim thugs (Iran, Sudan). The love of some countries is just not worth having.

Anti-abortion walk deserved coverage

To the editor:

The Sunday Sun Chronicle of May 4 had many reports of worthy Saturday activities of various kinds, but nary a word about the Walk for Life, from Hodges Street to Capron Park, to support "A Woman's Concern." This is also a very worthy activity that should have been reported by The Sun Chronicle the next day.

I can only ask, "why not?"

THE SUN CHRONICLE included the Walk for Life in several listings of community events. The newspaper is unable to cover all of these event.
