WRENTHAM - King Philip Regional High School will have a boys' and girls' swimming team and girls' ice hockey starting next school year.

Both will be competitive varsity teams.

School committee members Monday night approved the teams, which will be funded through the normal $165 sports participation fee and fundraising, and not the tight school budget.

Dozens of students turned out the past two school committee meetings in support of the teams.

It is believed to be the first time King Philip has had such teams. The Hockomock League just completed its first season with boys' and girls' swimming teams.
