P-Bruins suffer OT setback
Top Headlines The Bruins, who got goals from Pascal Pelletier, Petteri Nokelainen and Martins Karsums, still lead the best-of-seven, Atlantic Division Finals, 2-1, with Game 4 on tap for Sunday (4:05 p.m.) in Portland. The Pirates scored the game-winning goal at the 5:20 mark of overtime on a 2-on-1 breakaway, Brendan Mikkelson netting his first goal of the playoffs with Drew Miller and Portland goalie Jean-Sebastien Aubin grabbing the assists. Providence was less than a minute away from assuming a 3-0 series lead but the Pirates netted the equalizer with 57 seconds left in regulation, that with Aubin on the bench for an extra attacker. Bobby Ryan tallied his second goal of the game with Miller and Andrew Ebbett getting the assists. Trailing 2-1 to start the third, the P-Bruins tied the game at the 14:14 mark, Nokelainen scoring a rebound goal from the slot, his third of the playoffs. Providence regained the lead at the 17:54 mark. Once again the P-Bruins worked the puck in the zone between Jonathan Sigalet and Matt Lashoff. The puck came free in the slot and Karsums was there to net his fifth goal of the postseason. The P-Bruins took the 1-0 advantage at the 4:30 mark of the opening period. Karsums took a shot on net and Pirates goaltender Jean-Sebastien Aubin was there to make the save. The rebound went to Sean Curry at the blue line. He took a shot and the puck was redirected in front of the crease by Pelletier and into the net. For Pelletier, it was his fifth goal of the postseason and Providence went into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead. In the second period, the Pirates tied the game at one at the 4:31 mark. Bobby Ryan netted his second goal of the playoffs, with Brian Salcido recording the lone assist. Portland took its first lead of the game and series at the 10:19 mark. Geoff Platt tallied his third goal of the postseason, while Ryan and Stephen Dixon grabbed the assists. Tuukka Rask stopped 21 of 25 shots for the P-Bruins, while Aubin made 26 saves for the Pirates. Providence went 0-for-6 on the power play.
