Boomtown to Foxboro: Rex Trailer is riding in parade

FOXBORO - Founders Day on June 7 will be celebrating "One Hundred Years of the Foxboro Company/Invensys," but for many baby boomers, the day will also be a celebration of 50 years of "Boomtown."

Rex Trailer, the longtime host of the Boston children's television show, "Boomtown," will ride in the Founders Day parade and will perform some of his rope tricks at the Booth Playground following the parade. For those under the age of 50, Trailer, riding his horse Goldrush, has been a Boston icon for at least 50 years. His cowboy-themed show was watched faithfully by children every Saturday and Sunday morning.

The Founders Day Committee is meeting 7-8 p.m. every Tuesday this month at Memorial Hall, and is still looking for volunteers for the annual townwide celebration that also includes activities on Booth Field and a fireworks show.

Local groups who wish to have a booth during the day must submit registrations by May 18. The forms can be found on the Web site, foxboroughfoundersday.com. All participating groups must sign the indemnification form and groups selling any food (including just candy) must register with the Health Department for a one-day permit.

The Founders Day quilt is presently being displayed at Cindi's Jewelry Store in Foxboro and Cindi is also selling the new T-shirts for this year's Founders Day for $15 each. Cindi has volunteered to pay for the cost of having the shirts made, and as soon as she has met her expenses, all the proceeds will go into the Founders Day Fund.
