North Attleboro teen held on drug charges

ATTLEBORO - A 19-year-old North Attleboro man was ordered held in jail without bail Thursday on a charge of peddling marijuana from his home.

William F. Downey Jr., of 93 Reed Ave. in North Attleboro, pleaded innocent in Attleboro District Court to possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, drug conspiracy and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Downey was arrested by North Attleboro detectives Daniel Arrighi and Michael Elliott Wednesday on a warrant obtained from information police gained from an investigation into a burglary earlier in the week.

He was not involved in the break-in, but was ordered held in jail without bail because his new arrest violated the terms of his release in a pending marijuana possession and an assault case, according to court records.

During a search of Downey's home, police seized $725 cash and several pipes allegedly used to smoke marijuana.

A 15-year-old North Attleboro boy, whose name was not released because of his age, was charged in connection with a burglary on Circular Street and stealing rings.

Two others were charged with receiving stolen property and have pleaded innocent, but were not involved in the break-in, according to court records.

Cynthia Pardo, the mother of John F. Devin, 18, of 57 Orne St. in North Attleboro, said her son should never have been charged with receiving stolen property.

She said her son gave the two other suspects a ride to a pawn shop where the rings were sold, but did not know the rings were stolen. She said her son was the only one old enough to pawn the rings.

The case was continued to August for a pretrial conference.
