Constance A. Carlson, 84

NORFOLK - Constance A. Carlson, 84, of North Street, died on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at Caritas-Norwood Hospital in Norwood. She had been the beloved widow of Russell Carlson, who had died on Aug. 7, 2005.

Born in Norwood, on Oct. 21, 1923, she was the dear and devoted daughter of Charles A. and Dorothy (Pratt) Bean.

A homemaker for most of her life, she had been proud of the work she performed during World War II. As a machinist at Bendix Aviation Corporation, she had fabricated fighter plane parts, aiding our servicemen in their vast efforts abroad.

With an active interest in education, she had been instrumental in starting kindergarten programs in Norfolk and Upton.

She is survived by her loving children, Eric J. Carlson of Norfolk, and Kristin M. Bessette of Warren, and was mother of the late Anders R. Carlson. She was the devoted grandmother of Lyn, Lisa, Jason, Richard, and Lori, and great-grandmother of Kaitlin, Ashlee, Lillian, and Devin.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call Monday, April 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the RJ Ross Funeral Home, 135 South St., Route 1A, Wrentham Center. Private graveside services will be held at her family lot in Rural Cemetery in Walpole.

Laura P. Madden, 81

ATTLEBORO - Laura P. (Potter) Madden, 81, of Claflin Street, Attleboro, died on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro following a period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of the late William E. "Red" Madden, former Attleboro educator and Attleboro High School Athletic Director from 1954 to 1984, to whom she was married on June 18, 1949 and who died on Oct. 29, 2002.

Born in Warren, R.I. on Sept. 19, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Nina (Carpenter) Potter Hardy. She resided in Warren following her birth, and at the age of 2 moved with her family to Massachusetts and settled in Attleboro. She remained a resident of the City of Attleboro for the past 79 years.

Mrs. Madden was a 1945 graduate of Attleboro High School and earned an associate's degree from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1947.

She leaves a legacy as a loving and loyal wife and mother, and in later years grandmother, and as a dedicated homemaker.

Mrs. Madden was a member of the First Baptist Church, Attleboro.

She leaves a son, Kevin H. Madden of Quincy; two grandchildren, Drew D. Madden and Emma N. Madden, both of Holliston; and a sister, Grace Potter of Attleboro.

Visitation has been respectfully omitted at Mrs. Madden's request.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Memorial Service Celebrating Her Life on Saturday, April 26 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 118 South Main St. - Route 152, Attleboro with the Rev. Dr. John E. Fisk, pastor, and Rev. Doug Congdon-Martin, former pastor, co-officiating.

Burial will follow in North Purchase Cemetery, Attleboro.

Following cemetery services, an invitation will be extended to return with the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced.
