George Buttlar, 51

PLAINVILLE
- George Frederick Buttlar Jr., 51, of Am Vet Drive, Plainville; formerly of North Attleboro; died unexpectedly at his residence on Tuesday, April 22, 2008.

Born in Norwood on July 12, 1956, he was a son of George Frederick Buttlar Sr. of Vernon, Maine and Dorothy Mae LaValley of Cranston, R.I.

He resided in Plainville for the past five years and previously was a lifelong resident of the Town of North Attleboro, where he was raised and educated. A lifelong truck operator, Mr. Buttlar worked for many years in the sanitation business, having had worked the past nine years for Waste Solutions in Marshfield.

He held similar positions with numerous other waste disposal companies throughout the area over the years.

His family recalls with warmth and love a gentle, simple man who was an incredible father and grandfather whom will be forever missed.

Mr. Buttlar loved listening to all types of music but was happiest while riding his motorcycle with other members of the Blackstone Valley H.O.G. Chapter.

He leaves behind a legacy as a hard-working family man.

He treasured the times spent in the company of his cherished three grandchildren.

An outdoorsman, he enjoyed deer hunting and smelt fishing.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Buttlar leaves three children: Michael J. Buttlar of North Attleboro, Matthew P. Buttlar Sr. of North Attleboro, and Lindsey R. Buttlar of Pawtucket; three grandchildren: Matthew P. Buttlar Jr. of North Attleboro, Mia Jae Buttlar of North Attleboro, and McKenzie A. Masey of Pawtucket; two sisters, Dorothy Mae Buttlar of East Providence, R.I. and Jean Bator of Pawtucket; a niece, Amanda Bator of Pawtucket; a great-niece, Amaya Donald of Pawtucket, and numerous extended family members, friends and colleagues.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Sunday, April 27 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Ave. (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, 3/4 mile on left), Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.

Those in need of a ride to visitation may simply call the funeral home at 508-695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis transportation. Family and friends are welcome to attend the funeral service on Monday, April 28 at 10 a.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Ave. (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, 3/4 mile on left), Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, with the Rev. Katrina Clinton, pastor of the First Congregational Church, Old Post Road, North Attleboro, officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.

Joan Randall, 76

MATTAPOISETT
- Joan Clegg Randall, 76, of Mattapoisett died on Saturday, April 19, 2008.

She was born in Attleboro, and was the daughter of the late Bertha (Hitching) Ellis and the late Harry B. Clegg. She was a graduate of Attleboro High School, Class of 1949, and the Boston School of Fashion Design.

She was a talented artist and fashion designer in her younger years.

She and her former husband, the late Dean L. Randall, also of Attleboro, moved to Mattapoisett in 1959. She worked as an insurance broker, and was retired from John Hancock Life Insurance Company.

She is survived by two daughters, Kim Randall of Rochester and Jennifer Randall of Mattapoisett; a granddaughter, Leah Randall of Mattapoisett; and a brother, Robert Barton-Clegg of Paris.

Joseph Garcia, 87

ATTLEBORO
- Joseph F. Garcia Sr., 87, of Nelson Street, Attleboro, a retired polisher, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Maria C. (Mello) Garcia.

Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, on July 22, 1920, Joseph was a son of the late Antonio and Antonia (Araujo) Garcia.

Joseph came to the United States in 1960.

He worked at Shields Manufacturing, Wells Manufacturing, and retired years ago from Swank, Inc.

He was a longtime communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Attleboro.

In addition to his wife Maria, he is survived by two sons, Joseph Garcia Jr. of Attleboro, and Tony Garcia of Attleboro; a daughter, Mary Margaret Carvalho of Attleboro; a sister, Fernanda Bernardo of Attleboro; and his grandchildren: Susan Leroux, Mike Garcia, Julie Jarest, Kathy Rocchio, and Jennifer Ryan. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.

He was the brother of the late Manuel Garcia, Antonio Garcia, Ludouina Rapose, Estrela Cruz, Maria Coelho, and Teresa Pavao.

A funeral will be held on Saturday, April 26 at 9 a.m. from the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck St., Attleboro. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 208 South Main St., Attleboro. Joseph will be laid to rest in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Attleboro.

Visiting hours will be held Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.

Warren Davis, 60

NORTH ATTLEBORO
- Warren O. Davis, 60, of Lake Shore Drive, and a former Franklin resident, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence.

He was the husband of Susan J. (Ball) Davis.

Born in Norwood on Feb. 26, 1948, a son of the late Warren P. and Maria (Knieps) Davis, he was raised and educated in Wrentham, and was a 1966 graduate of King Philip High School.

Mr. Davis retired in 2005 from the Wrentham State School, where he had worked for 35 years as a supervisor.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was honorably discharged in December 1970.

He was a member of Bristol Lodge AF & AM in North Attleboro.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 35 years are two brothers, Edward Davis of Wrentham and John Davis and his wife Betty of Whitman; and a sister-in-law, Cynthia A. Wyman and her husband Steve of Colorado.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage St., Franklin, (www.franklinfuneral.com).

Brenda Cherry, 69

DELAND, FLA.
- Brenda Elise (Albee) Cherry, 69, of Deland, Fla. died suddenly in her home on Wednesday, April 2, 2008.

Born in Boston on Nov. 26, 1938, Brenda was the daughter of Harold E. and Adelaide (Ullock) Albee. She was raised in Westwood, and was educated in the Westwood public schools.

She lived in Norfolk, where she raised her four children, then moved to Attleboro Falls, where she lived for 16 years.

After retiring as a supervisor for the Wrentham Developmental Center in Wrentham in 2000, she moved to Deland, Fla. in 2001.

She was a member of the Amvets Ladies Auxiliary 0013, the Fraternal Order of Moose Chapter 1003, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Auxiliary 3959, all of Deland. She loved cooking and taking photographs of family and friends. She had a green thumb and she loved doing things for others. She also enjoyed riding motorcycles, shopping, and of course her grandchildren, whom she lovingly referred to as her "Pies." She is survived by her son, Wesley D. Cherry and his wife Robin of Millis; her daughter, Diane E. Dube and her husband Rick of North Berwick, Maine; her son, Steven B. Cherry of Attleboro; and her son, William D. Cherry and his wife Holly of North Attleboro. Brenda leaves her brother, Dean E. Albee of Deltona, Fla.; her sister, M. Anne Albee and her husband John Connors of Colchester, Conn.; her sister, Debra L. Meadows and her husband Hugh of Tarzana, Calif.; her stepson John W. Cherry Jr. and his wife Tracy of Cape Cod; and her six beloved grandchildren: Sheriann Harper, Kristi Harper, Lindsey Cherry, Laurie-Jean Cherry, Billy Cherry and Christopher Cherry. She also leaves her loving nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Parker and Harold E. "Pete" Albee II; and her stepson, Wayne Cherry. A memorial service celebrating Brenda's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at the Original Congregational Church in Wrentham. Francis Laffan, 68

TAUNTON
- Francis P. Laffan, 68, of Taunton died on Sunday, April 20, 2008 in Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood.

Born in Taunton, he was a son of the late Martin and Catherine (Hennessey) Laffan.

He was a 1959 graduate of Taunton High School and a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Taunton.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965.

For over 40 years, Fran was employed as a clerk at the Willow Tree Farm store in Attleboro.

He was the husband of 33 years of Maureen (Goggin) Laffan.

Fran ran the Taunton Roseland Junior Bowling League.

He was a Little League coach for the Eastern League and he was the head umpire for the Eastern League for years.

He enjoyed bowling, and he received national recognization from the National Duck Pin Federation for bowling a 232 game.

He played fast-pitch softball and also played in the Lob League of softball.

Besides his wife Maureen, he is survived by his nieces and nephews: Mary Laffan Amaral of Middleboro; Patricia Jones Warwick of Alabama; James Laffan of Rochester; and Martin Laffan, Edward Laffan and John Laffan, all of Taunton. He was the brother of the late Martin Laffan Jr, Charles Laffan and Catherine Jones, and he is the brother-in-law of Louise Laffan of Taunton, Patricia Goggin of Taunton and Thomas Goggin of Sandwich.

He was also the great uncle of several.

A funeral to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held from the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave. (Route 138 South), Taunton on Friday at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church at 10 a.m.

Visiting hours will be held today from 4 to 8 p.m.

Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
