Top Headlines William Spaner, 60 ATTLEBORO - William M. Spaner, 60, of Thacher Street, Attleboro, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the loving fiance of Nancy Wall of Attleboro. Born in Framingham on April 1, 1948, William was the beloved son of Jeannette (Landry) Piette of Cumberland, R.I., and the late William M. Spaner. He was the stepson of the late Richard Piette. William was educated in Central Falls, R.I., where he was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy. He also served his country in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He worked many years for the City of Attleboro in the Community Development Department, recently serving as director. He was currently employed at Bass Pro Shops in Foxboro. William enjoyed fishing, photography, and gardening. He also loved nature and loved to travel. In addition to his mother and fiance, he is survived by a son, Scott Spaner of South Attleboro; a daughter, Karen Whitney of Attleboro; three grandchildren: Jared Sweeney, Samantha Whitney, and Joshua Whitney; and two sisters, Carol Goudreau of Pawtucket and Susan Piette of Cumberland. Also survived by his stepsister, Linda Renaud of Lincoln, R.I.; and his stepchildren: David Wall and his wife Casey Davis of Jersey City, N.J., and Barry Wall and his companion Chelsey Rand of Waimanalo, Hawaii. He was the brother of the late Marion Koehler and the stepbrother of the late Richard Piette. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, May 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck St., Attleboro. A funeral will be conducted on Friday, May 2 at 10 a.m. from the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Saint John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main St., Attleboro celebrated by the Rev. Richard Roy, pastor. Mr. Spaner will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, Towne Street, Attleboro Falls. "Sonny" Donovan, 79, of Central Park Terrace, Franklin, and a former longtime Lake Archer, Wrentham resident, died on Monday, April 28, 2008 in Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood. He was the husband of the late Carolyn Donovan. Born in Boston on Nov. 17, 1928, he was a son of the late Charles and Dorothy (Hegerich) Donovan. Mr. Donovan had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was a member of the George MacInnis American Legion Post in Wrentham. He had very much enjoyed his years spent on Lake Archer, and enjoyed boating, water skiing, and spending time with his many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to nieces and nephews, he also leaves one brother, Edward of Florida; five sisters: Margaret Cormier of Wrentham, Winifred McDonough of Florida and Bourne, Elizabeth Donovan of New Jersey, Louise Ketterle of California; and Helen Dearden of Quincy; and seven children. Relatives and friends are invited and may call today, Wednesday, April 30, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the R.J. Ross Funeral Home, 135 South St. (Route 1A), Wrentham Center. A prayer vigil service will be conducted during the evening calling hours with Father David C. Goodrow, pastor of St. Mary's Church, officiating. Burial at a later date will be in Old Calvary Cemetery in Boston. William Jenks, 76 NORTH ATTLEBORO - William Kenneth Jenks, 76, of Mendon Road, a retired foreman at Leach & Garner, died Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the Blue Hills Alzheimer's Care Center in Stoughton. He was the beloved husband of Constance M. (Harrop) Jenks, to whom he had been married 55 years. Born in Attleboro on June 4, 1931, he was the son of the late Albert and Myrtice (Keene) Jenks, and was a graduate of the Bristol County Agricultural School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a radio repairman, Tank Company, 279th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star on Oct. 2, 1953 and was also awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and two overseas bars. He attained the rank of staff sergeant and was honorably discharged on May 18, 1961. For 33 years, Bill worked for Leach & Garner of Attleboro, retiring in 1996. During his retirement he enjoyed gardening, word puzzles and family cookouts, with croquet as his favorite game. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Tina Marlene Jenks Ricks and her husband Michael of North Attleboro; three sons: Kenneth T. Jenks and his wife Brenda of South Dennis, William E. Jenks of North Attleboro, and Alan A. Jenks of Woonsocket, R.I.; his beloved grandchildren: Elizabeth, Victoria, Alexander, Danielle, William, Alan, Nikki and Ryan; and great-granddaughter Sophia. He is also survived by three sisters: Carol Harrop of St. Petersburg, Fla., Myrtice Babbitt and Judith Chamillard, both of Dunn, N.C.; two brothers, Roger Jenks of South Yarmouth and Earl Jenks of West Kingston, R.I.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Charles, Albert and Alan Jenks, Barbara L'Amoreau, Dorothy Metters, Ruth Bury, Helen MacLean, Mabel Garten, and Ann Kenniston. His funeral will be private. Merle Williams, 87 EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Merle (Stone) Williams, 87, of Rumford passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, April 21, 2008 in St. Elizabeth Manor in Bristol, R.I. She was the devoted wife of the late George F. Williams. Born in Attleboro, a daughter of the late Henry F. Stone and Lillian E. (Simpson) Stone, she spent her youth in Woonsocket, R.I., and lived in Riverside, R.I., for many years, moving to Rumford in 1971. She was a graduate of Woonsocket High School and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Providence. Mrs. Williams was a homemaker, and a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Riverside. She was the loving mother of Mark S. Williams of Rehoboth, David H. Williams and his wife Diane of Foxboro, Mrs. Frederick (Janice E.) Davis of Pawtucket and Tracy E. Armington of East Providence, R.I.; the adored grandmother of eight grandchildren and one great-grandson; and the aunt of several nieces and nephews. She was sister of the late Wallace Stone. Her graveside service will be held Friday, May 2, 2008 at 11 a.m. in Rumford Cemetery of Lakeside off Greenwood and Chaffee streets. Relatives and friends are invited.
