Joseph Duphily, 80

NORTH ATTLEBORO - Joseph "John" Fernand Duphily, 80, of North Attleboro, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 28, 2008 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Anita Theresa (Jette) Duphily, to whom he was married on May 7, 1949 at Sacred Heart Church in North Attleboro.

Born in Pawtucket on June 27, 1927, he was a son of the late Joseph Osias and Flora (Marion) Duphily. At the age of 18, Mr. Duphily moved with his family to the newly purchased family farm on Handy Street in Attleboro, where he lived for 10 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Duphily made their home on Union Street in Attleboro for 38 years prior to moving to North Attleboro in 1995.

As an Attleboro resident, Mr. Duphily was a communicant of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, where he served his church community as a member of the church choir for many years. Since moving to North Attleboro, Mr. Duphily was a communicant of St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church in the Attleboro Falls section of North Attleboro.

In earlier years, Mr. Duphily worked for a variety of manufacturing firms including Plasti-mold, Standard Plastics and Jostens Inc. He then began employment as a workshop manager for Attleboro Enterprises, working with adults with developmental disabilities. He was most proud of his work and accomplishments with the adults at Attleboro Enterprises.

Mr. Duphily later went to work at Augat Inc. from where he would later retire.

An ardent woodworker, he enjoyed spending time in his workshop creating a wide variety of wood crafts and furniture for his home and for family members to enjoy.

His memory will live on in the many hand-crafted pieces that have now become family heirlooms and treasures.

Other favorite interests and activities included a love for reading and listening to books on tapes and enjoying the sounds of opera music.

A man of strong spiritual faith, he was a life member of the Knights of Columbus St. John's Council 404 in Attleboro and was a member of the organization's bowling league for many years.

In addition to his wife of almost 59 years, he leaves four children: Normand G. Duphily of Auburn, Maine; Denise A. Gomes of Chepachet, R.I.; Mark L. Duphily of Cranston, R.I., and Donna J. Briggs of Attleboro; nine grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Leo Duphily, Roger Duphily, Robert Duphily, Gerard Duphily and Marguerite Bailey.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Friday, May 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Ave. (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, 3/4 mile on left), Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.

A children's room will be available during visitation.

Following church services, an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced.

Private burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Attleboro.

David Carr, 59

CUMBERLAND, R.I. - David G. Carr, 59, of Payson Lane died Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He was the beloved husband of Frances A. (Lewicki) Carr.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Gordon and Dorothy (Larson) Carr, he had lived in Cumberland, R.I., for the past 37 years.

Mr. Carr was the superintendent and secretary of the corporation of Narragansett Improvement Company in Providence for 40 years and had planned on retiring this June.

A graduate of the University of Rhode Island, he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.

While at URI, he was a member of the ROTC and had served as captain in the U.S. Army Reserve.

He was a member of Arnold Mills United Methodist Church in Cumberland.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Jennifer F. Carr of Franklin; one son, Joshua D. Carr of Cumberland; two sisters, Melba Wilson of Bar Harbor, Maine and Lynne Feinberg of Overland Park, Kan.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held Saturday, May 3 at 1:30 p.m. in Arnold Mills United Methodist Church, 690 Nate Whipple Highway, Cumberland. Burial will be private.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Bellows-Falso Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln, R.I., on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Clara Dooley, 87

WRENTHAM - Clara Ruth (Jewell) Dooley, 87, of Taunton Street, Wrentham, formerly of Canterbury Woods, Garfield Avenue, Attleboro and Needham, died peacefully on Sunday, April 27, 2008 at the Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wrentham, where she was a resident since August 2006. She was the beloved wife of the late James Lawrence Dooley, who died on April 30, 1963.

Born in Akron, Ohio, on Nov. 11, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Clara (Breen) Jewell. She was raised and educated in Ohio, where she maintained her Evangelical faith. Following her marriage, she converted to Catholicism.

Mrs. Dooley was employed as a secretary for the former Ludlow Company in Needham for four years and later as a secretary for the Glover Hospital in Needham for four years prior to her retirement.

She enjoyed knitting and sewing and was an ardent reader. Her happiest times were those spent in the company of her beloved family.

Mrs. Dooley leaves her devoted daughter-in-law, Linda Mary (White) Dooley of Plainville and two granddaughters, Tamara K. Dooley of Cumberland, R.I., and Staci M. Dooley of Plainville.

She was the mother of the late Robert Lawrence Dooley, who died on July 1, 2006, and the late Michael James Dooley, who died on Jan. 8, 1998.

Mrs. Dooley was predeceased by her sisters, Martha and Blanche.

Doris Brown, 73

ATTLEBORO - Doris Marie (Dowdall) Brown, 73, of North Avenue, Attleboro, died on Monday, April 28, 2008 at the Golden Living Center - Bristol, formerly Pleasant Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Attleboro following a period of declining health.

Born in North Attleboro on Oct. 16, 1934, she was a daughter of the late John and Mabel (Lemarier) Dowdall. She was raised in the City of Attleboro, where she was a graduate of Attleboro High School, and recently enjoyed attending her 55th class reunion. She was a lifelong resident of the City of Attleboro.

A woman ahead of her time, she enlisted in the United States Air Force and served from her enlistment on March 1, 1954 until her honorable discharge on Aug. 23, 1956 with the rank of airman first class.

She was employed as a senior clerk stenographer for the City of Attleboro Welfare Department for many years prior to her retirement.

For many years, she was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Attleboro and in more recent years was a communicant of St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church in Attleboro Falls.

Her family recalls with laughter her ability to use her sense of humor at all times and to make others laugh and make friends virtually everywhere she went.

One of her favorite pastimes included solving crossword puzzles.

She leaves three sisters: Margaret Davis of Attleboro, Rose Theresa Vatcher of Taunton and Rita Allard of North Attleboro; a brother, Walter Dowdall of Attleboro; and three generations of nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late John J. Dowdall, Edward Dowdall, Harry Dowdall and William J. Dowdall Sr.

Visitation has been respectfully omitted.

Marie White, 73

NORTH ATTLEBORO - Marie A. White, 73, of Mount Hope Street, North Attleboro, a retired meter maid, passed away Monday, April 28, 2008 in Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, after fighting breast cancer for 15 years.

Born in Boston on Feb. 15, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Kathleen (Kane) Kelly. Marie was educated in the Boston public schools.

She retired from the City of Boston, where she worked for over 20 years as a meter maid.

Her greatest joys were spending time with her children and family, and vacationing on Cape Cod with her grandchildren.

Marie is survived by two daughters, Kathleen and her husband Robert Cox of Wrentham and Diane and her husband Gus Reynolds of North Attleboro; five grandchildren: Kristen Coliflores of Wrentham, Gustas Reynolds of North Attleboro, Kimberly Cox of Wrentham, Sean Reynolds of North Attleboro and Michael Cox of Wrentham; three great-grandchildren, Haylie Reynolds, Ava Reynolds and Isabella Coliflores; and is also survived by a brother, Lawrence Kelly of Jamaica Plain; and a sister-in-law, Mitzi McKenna of Worcester.

She was the sister of the late Thomas Kelly, Louise Kelly, Barbara Craven, Eileen Romano and Kathleen Dunn.

A funeral will be held on Monday, May 5, 2008 at 9 a.m. from the John J. Diamond Funeral Home, 180 North Washington St., North Attleboro, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 14 Park St., North Attleboro.

Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Attleboro Falls.

Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Peter Lundstedt, 71

PLAINVILLE - Peter E. Lundstedt of Plainville died suddenly on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Caritas Norwood Hospital. He was 71.

Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Erik and Lilian (Marquardt) Lundstedt.

Peter was a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran.

He was a resident of Plainville for 25 years.

Peter was the owner of Lundstedt's Disposal Service, serving the Needham community for over 30 years.

He was an avid gardener and loved his dogs.

The beloved husband of Christine (Chavez) Lundstedt of Plainville, he was the father of William Lundstedt of Needham, Laurette Theriault of Cornelius, N.C., Lisa Bishop of Plainville and Erik Lundstedt of Fall River; the stepfather of Andrea Charlton of Sutton; the brother of Anne Cherry of Plainville; and is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave., Needham on Saturday, May 3 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Interment with military honors will be at Needham Cemetery.

Donald Spencer, 51

TAUNTON - Donald L. Spencer, 51, of Taunton died peacefully in his home on Saturday, April 26, 2008, following a 29-year journey with multiple sclerosis. He was surrounded by the comfort of his loving family. Donald was the husband of Mary Jo (Ferreira) Spencer, whom he married on Aug. 5, 1983. This year would have been their 25th anniversary.

Donald was the father of Joseph C. Spencer of Taunton.

Donald was born in Attleboro to Shirley E. (Woodward) Spencer of Norton and the late Elwood W. "Buddy" Spencer. He was educated in the Norton public schools and was 1974 graduate of Norton High School. He then entered the U.S. Army, serving as a food service specialist. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and also received the Sharpshooter Medal. He was discharged in 1977.

Following his discharge, Donald was employed as kitchen staff at the former Paul A. Dever State School in Taunton. In 1979, he was diagnosed with chronic/progressive multiple sclerosis.

He is a 1984 graduate of Bridgewater State College and received a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling from Assumption College in Worcester in 1987.

He was employed by the Massachusetts Hospital School in Canton at the S.I.L.E. until his disability caused his retirement in 1989.

Donald was a Disabled American Veteran, a member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America and a member of the Harold A. Healy American Legion Post 222 in Norton.

Donald entered the Roman Catholic Church in 1993 at St. Mary's Church in Norton. He was later confirmed by the late Msgr. John Steakem. At the time of his death, Donald was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Attleboro. In 1995, he experienced the joy of a Cursillo Retreat weekend held in his home and directed by the late Msgr. Steakem and the men of St. Mary's Church in Norton Ultreya in conjunction with the Holy Cross Retreat House in Easton, and for the 11 years he and his wife hosted the monthly Ultreya meeting at their home.

Donald is a member of the Fourth Degree Assembly of the Knights of Columbus in Brockton and a member of the St. Mary's Knight of Columbus Council 11690 in Norton.

In December of 2004, following a period of failing health, Donald became confined to his home. He spent his days joyfully participating in the home education of his son, viewing daily Mass on EWTN, reciting his 20-decade Rosary, and playing cards with family and friends.

Besides his precious wife, son and mother, Donald is survived by his mother-in-law, Josephine S Rego of Taunton. He is also survived by his sister, Mariata Spencer-Metivier and her husband William of Blackstone; and his brothers, Michael and Darrell Spencer of Norton and Bruce Spencer and his wife Nadine (Goodwin) Spencer of Foxboro and the late Steven Spencer. He was the uncle of Troy, Taylor, Ty and Trace Spencer. He was the godfather of Mary Grace Day of Rehoboth. He was the very close friend of Deacon Forrest L. Wallace and his wife Mary of Cincinnati, Ohio, and their children Caitlyn Taphorn and her husband Stephen and their newborn son Noah James of Virginia; F. Robert Wallace of North Carolina; and Anna, Mark Theresa, Gabriel and Brigid Wallace of Cincinnati. He also leaves several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral from the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave. (Route 138 South), Taunton on Monday, May 5, 2008 at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph's Church, Attleboro at 11 a.m.

Visiting hours are on Sunday from 5 to 9 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 8 p.m. conducted by Deacon Forrest Wallace. Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Taunton.
