Nicholas "Nico" Pennellatore, 16 MANSFIELD - After a long battle, our special angel, Nicholas "Nico" Pennellatore, 16, of Mansfield, went to his special place in Heaven on Friday, May 2, 2008. He was surrounded by his parents, grandparents, and nurses. Nico was the beloved son of Steven M. and Mellissa A. (Ivory) Pennellatore of Mansfield. He is survived by his brothers Daniel Pennellatore, 18, and Justin Pennellatore, 15, of Mansfield. Our sweet angel "Nico" came into this world in a special way on Oct. 25, 1991. He was born at home surrounded by his loving family. This began his journey of touching so many lives. Whether it be the visits from the Kennedy-Donovan Center in his first few years or the trips to the Perkins School for the Blind with his mom, brothers Daniel and Justin, and his "Papa," Nico touched anyone with whom he came into contact. The loving care that Nico received allowed him to spend the majority of his time surrounded by his family at home. Besides the care his parents gave him, beginning in 1993 he had nurses coming to care for him on a daily basis. Whether it was playing music that he loved so much, holding his hands, or giving him the special care his illness required - it was this that allowed him to stay at home with his family. He was able to avoid hospital visits and stay with us for 16 years, even though the doctors never expected it to happen. Although Nico's physical abilities were limited, he was able to reach out and touch the lives of those who knew him directly and indirectly. In the end, his illness remains undiagnosed; however, Nico's lesson to us is very clear. Nico will always be loved and remembered by his family, nurses, and those he touched. Nico is survived by his grandparents, Stephen L. and Diane M. Pennellatore of Mansfield, and Barbara Ivory of North Attleboro and the late Robert Ivory Sr.; by many aunts and uncles: Curtis and Susan Cinelli of Norton, Anthony Calcia of North Attleboro, Donna Wambolt of North Attleboro, Michael Ivory of North Attleboro, Kim Murray of North Attleboro, Robert and Lisa Ivory of Attleboro, Gary and Amy Ivory of Norwood, and the late James Jay Ivory. Nico also is survived by 19 cousins and the loving nurses who cared for him at home. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend his funeral Mass on Tuesday, May 6 at 9 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 330 Pratt St. (Rte. 106), Mansfield. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, North Attleboro. Visiting hours are Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Bolea-Amici Funeral Home, 115 North Main St., Mansfield.
