Top Headlines Maureen Semple, 45 ATTLEBORO - Maureen Semple, 45, of Wamsutta Road, Attleboro, a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and aunt, died peacefully after a series of chronic illnesses on Monday, May 5, 2008 at home. She was the beloved wife of 24 years to Douglas "Doug" A. Semple. They joyfully celebrated their wedding anniversary on April 14. Born Maureen Keough in Providence on April 6, 1963, Maureen was the beloved daughter of Raymond J. and Helen C. (Harty) Keough of Seekonk. She was raised in Seekonk and was a graduate of Seekonk High School, Class of 1981. Maureen later earned an associate degree with honors in physical therapy from Massasoit Community College in Brockton. Mrs. Semple was a nurse coordinator for five years at the Community of Visiting Nurse Agency in Attleboro. Earlier, she was employed as a physical therapist at Southwood Community Hospital in Wrentham and also at Norwood Hospital. A communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Attleboro, Maureen volunteered as a CCDinstructor. Maureen enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and especially enjoyed running and aerobics. She was an aerobics instructor for a number of years at the Attleboro YMCA specializing in aqua and regular aerobics and often volunteered instructing aerobics at Canterbury Woods in Attleboro and EPOCH Senior Health Care Center in Norton and enjoyed sharing her talents and enthusiasm with seniors. Maureen twice completed the Falmouth Road Race and received a bronze medal in the Wrentham Duathlon for her age group, winning third place in the biking and running event. Maureen was also a fighter and survivor, having successfully overcome a difficult battle with breast cancer, and was a source of support and inspiration to all. Her family was the staple of her life. She will be remembered as a devoted wife to her husband and a loving mother to her children. In addition to her husband, Doug and parents, Raymond and Helen, Maureen is survived by a son, Christopher D. Semple at home in Attleboro; three daughters, Katelyn E. Semple, Bethany E. Semple and Lindsey M. Semple, all at home in Attleboro; two brothers, Kevin Keough of Canton and Ray Keough of Exeter, R.I.; two sisters: Patricia Lewis of Cary, N.C., and Ellen Wolter of Attleboro; her father and mother-in-law, Alan and Janice (Jordan) Semple of Attleboro; her nieces, Abbey and Emma Mercier, Jordan, Gina, Victoria and Julia Semple, all of Attleboro, Alexandra and Allana Semple of Friendswood, Texas, Katherine Semple and Rosie Wolter, both of Attleboro, Christine and Caroline Keough of Canton, Meghan Keough of Exeter, R.I., and Veronica Lewis of Cary; her nephews, Thomas H. Semple and Curran Keough, both of Attleboro; aunts; uncles and cousins. Maureen was the beloved aunt of the late Justin Mercier. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, May 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck St., Attleboro. A funeral will be conducted on Friday, May 9 at 9 a.m. from the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main St. (Route 152), Attleboro celebrated by the Rev. Richard Roy, pastor. Mrs. Semple will be laid to rest in North Purchase Cemetery, 825 North Main St., Attleboro. Constance Burton, 78 NORFOLK - Constance Mae (Martin) Burton, a resident of Norfolk since 1954, died Sunday, May 4, 2008 at the Metrowest Medical Center in Framingham. She was 78. Born in Norwood, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ella (Blasenak) Martin, and attended the Norwood public schools. Connie, a member of the Norfolk Seniors, loved to line dance and attended many of the area senior centers including Norfolk, Norwood, Bellingham, Milford and Hopkinton. She was also an avid bowler along with her husband at Ficco's, Millis Bowl and Norwood Sports Center. She enjoyed all the times spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the devoted wife of nearly 60 years to Markene "Mark" E. Burton; and the loving mother of Mark S. Burton of Stewartsville, N.J., Wayne E. Burton of Millis, Constance Mae Morrison of Bourne and Wendy E. Wilson of Bellingham. She is also survived by nine grand- and six great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited and welcome to pay their respects at the R.J. Thomas Bray, 63 SEEKONK - Thomas A. Bray, 63, of Hillcrest Avenue died suddenly Monday. He was the husband of Virginia (Lee) Bray. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Ernest and Mildred (Howe) Bray Brosseau. He was the son of Paul L. Brosseau of Pawtucket. He was a Navy veteran serving in the Vietnam period on the USS Sablefish. Mr. Bray held membership in Amvets Post 8, Garfield Street, Central Falls, R.I. and the Elks Club of Attleboro 1014. Mr. Bray was a graduate of Johnson & Wales University Class of 1973. Surviving besides his wife and father are one son, Sean Bray of Orlando, Fla., and one daughter, Tammy Atwood of Burlington. He was a loving Poppie to his granddaughter Camden. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Virginia M. Lee of Seekonk; two brothers, Robert Bray of Rhode Island and Calvin Bray of Massachusetts; three sisters, Ethel Smith of Arizona, Shirley Dureault of Florida and Paula Yahn of Providence; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Bray was the brother of the late Ernest Bray. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Cheetham Mortuary, 1012 Newport Ave., Pawtucket. Please omit flowers. Theodore Pitas Sr., 99 ATTLEBORO - Theodore "Ted" Pitas Sr., 99, of Pitas Avenue passed away Sunday, May 4, 2008 at his residence. He was the beloved husband of the late Veronica S. (Niemiec) Pitas, who passed away Nov. 17, 2007. Born in Central Falls, R.I., he was a son of the late Joseph and Julia (Medrzychowski) Pitas. He was a lifelong resident of South Attleboro. Before retiring, he was employed as a foreman for Automatic Screw Machine Products of Attleboro. He is survived by two sons, Theodore Pitas Jr. and his wife Shirley of North Waterboro, Maine and Robert E. Pitas and his wife Betty of Albany, Calif. He also leaves two brothers, Joseph Pitas of Brooksville, Fla., and Andrew Pitas of Leesburg, Va.; one sister, Margaret Leca of Taunton; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William and Stephen Pitas, Sophie Ekdahl, Nellie Barrett and Helen Fenda. His funeral will be held Friday, May 9, 2008 from the Karol A. Romenski & Sons Funeral Home, 342 High St., Central Falls at 9 a.m. with a prayer service in the funeral home at 10 a.m. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Community VNA, 10 Emory St., Attleboro, MA 02703-9944 would be greatly appreciated.
