Top Headlines Willine Twombly, 84 STANDISH, MAINE - Mrs. Willine Twombly, 84, of Standish, Maine, died Sunday, May 4, 2008 at Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston, Ga., where she was visiting with her daughter Bonilyn. She was born May 23, 1923 in Freedom, N.H., the daughter of the late William and Ethel Perkins of Eaton Center. She was a graduate of Kennett High School in Conway, N.H., Class of 1942. Willine's philosophy of life was "Where there is a will, there is a way." She emulated this by hard work and sheer determination. Willine and Al moved to their family farm in Standish in 1950. Willine was an active leader with the Bonny Eagle Beavers 4-H club from the early 1950s through the late 1960s. She taught sewing, canning, gardening, gun safety, and many other useful skills to the youth of Standish. She was a natural teacher, spending years as a Sunday School teacher at Buxton Methodist Church in Chicopee, Maine. In the early 1960s, she began her formal education at Gorham State Teachers College. Willine raised seven children, gardened, harvested crops, and worked full time, while pursuing her formal education. It took seven years to complete her bachelor's of science degree in special education. She taught at the Cerebral Palsy Center in Portland, Maine. She continued her education, receiving a master's degree as a reading specialist. She taught in the Sanford School District and taught children to read at White Rock School in Gorham, Maine. She always sought more education and personal enhancement. She became a lay leader in the Methodist church. Willine and her husband Al were active in the church community. Where she saw a need, "they" would lend a helping hand. She had a kind and generous spirit that touched many people's lives. Using her talents of sewing, baking and gardening, she raised funds for special church projects. Annually, she baked thousands of cookies for the Christmas bazaar. It was important to her that people had plenty of food. She raised money to donate to the Heifer Project; she started the food ministry program at the School Street Methodist Church in Gorham. She also served as a board member of the Eunice Frye Home in Portland. She was an avid gardener and had a passion for flowers. During the summer, she arranged bouquets for several churches and weddings. She enjoyed spending time with her large extended family, as well as quilting and reading. She was predeceased by Albion Twombly, her husband of 63 years, and a son, Bruce Wayne, whose body was donated to Tufts Medical Center in 1967. Survivors include two sons, Timothy and his wife Linda of Nashua, N.H., and Terry and his wife Andrea of Attleboro; four daughters: Rebecca Rogers and her husband Raymond of Standish, Roxann Twombly and Kobi of Standish, Bonilyn Rand and her husband Robert of Bowman, Ga. and Kristin Brooks and her husband Stephen of Colebrook, N.H.; two sisters, Nathalie and her husband Edward of Hendersonville, N.C. and Mary Grey of Conway, N.H.; her sisters-in-law, Rita Botting of Madison, N.H., Faith Twombly of Chatham, and Marie Twombly of Belfast, Maine; and a brother-in-law, James Twombly of Tamworth, N.H.
