Alex Blase, 17

NORTH ATTLEBORO - Alex Michael Blase, 17, of Hope Street died Monday, May 12, 2008 after unexpectedly falling ill on Thursday. He was the beloved son of James and Nancy (McCretton) Blase.

Born March 22, 1991 in Norwood, Alex was a lifelong resident of North Attleboro and was currently a junior at North Attleboro High School. He graduated from North Attleboro Middle School and was active in local athletics.

Alex loved sports and played Pop Warner Football, LNAL baseball and NAYB basketball while growing up. While at North Attleboro High School, he played freshman football and lacrosse and football in his sophomore year. He had previously played a year of ice hockey. This past year, Alex worked part time at Fresh Catch in North Attleboro.

He was also an avid sports fan, attending Patriots games with his dad, and he loved the Red Sox, but his favorite times were those spent hanging out with his many friends.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his best friend and twin brother, Jimmy and his little brother, Jack. He was grandson of James and Emily (Fagerberg) Blase of Falmouth; and the great-grandson of Mary (Scaccia) Blase of Hyde Park and the late Michael Blase.

He was the grandson of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Andrews) McCretton.

He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral will be held on Friday, May 16 at 9 a.m. from the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove St., North Attleboro followed by a Mass in St. Mary's Church, Park Street at 10 a.m.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery & Arboretum, Attleboro Falls.

Visiting hours will be in the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home on Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.

ATTLEBORO - David T. Bourbeau, 67, of Knight Avenue, Attleboro, passed away in Rhode Island Hospital, Providence.

Born in Attleboro on May 20, 1947, he was the son of the late Ernest and Evelyn (Breault) Bourbeau.

David worked as an attendant at the Foxboro State Hospital for over 20 years, and later at the Taunton State Hospital.

An avid, talented, figure skater, he taught many students, including several students who went on to later become Olympians.

He also served his country in the U.S. Navy.

David is survived by his nieces and nephews: Michelle Packard, Phyllis Thomas, Stephen MacKenzie, and Sean Bourbeau.

He was the brother of the late Paul Bourbeau, Joan Pellow, and Nancy Bourbeau.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service with military honors on Saturday, May 24 at 11 a.m. in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Towne Street, Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.

David Hutchings, 83

ATTLEBORO - David E. Hutchings, 83, of Wolfenden Street, Attleboro, a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, died peacefully on Monday, May 12, 2008 surrounded by his loving family at Epoch Senior Health Care in Norton after a courageous four-year battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. He was the beloved husband of Marion M. (Haskins) Hutchings.

Born on Dec. 4, 1924 in Owasco, N.Y., Hutch was a son of the late Joseph and Jemima (Ennis) Hutchings. He was raised and educated in Auburn, N.Y., and was a graduate of Auburn East High School.

During World War II and the Korean War, Dave honorably served as a gunner's mate second class in the United States Navy.

Following his service in the United States Navy, Hutch settled in Attleboro in 1959.

He was employed as an encruster at the former L.G. Balfour Company in Attleboro and later was the manager at the clubhouse at Highland Country Club until 1987. The following 15 years, Dave was a greeter and assistant at the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home in Attleboro. He was a great comfort to many families with his gentle compassion and professionalism.

Mr. Hutchings was a life member and former Exalted Ruler at the Attleboro Lodge of Elks, BPOE 1014, a member of the Ezekiel Bates Masonic Lodge and the Attleboro Rotary Club.

Hutch enjoyed taking long walks throughout the streets of Attleboro, and loved his family. He especially enjoyed the company of his beloved granddaughter Michaela, and also enjoyed traveling to Florida with his brothers-in-law, Scooter Krause and the late Joe Ryan, to follow the Boston Red Sox during spring training.

In addition to his beloved wife Marion, Hutch is survived by a daughter, Penny Ann Potter and her husband Stephen of Cranston, R.I.; a son, Keith H. Hutchings of Attleboro; a granddaughter, Michaela Margaret Potter of Cranston; a brother, Roger Hutchings of Auburn, N.Y.; four sisters, Elizabeth Reardon, Nancy Krause, Barbara Dagisini and Shirley Ficher, all of Auburn, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was the beloved brother of the late Joseph Hutchings, Donald Hutchings, James Hutchings, Margaret Ryan, Josephine Tryon and Julia Lawson.

At David's request, all funeral services are private.

Chhoeut Chem, 55

ATTLEBORO - Chhoeut Chem, 55, of Elizabeth Street, Attleboro, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, died Monday, May 12, 2008 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. She was the beloved wife of Samoeun Chom.

Born in Cambodia on March 2, 1953, Chhoeut was a daughter of Sothep Keth of Attleboro and the late Rom Sek, who died on July 8, 2007.

A farmer in Cambodia, Chhoeut settled with her family in Attleboro in 1986.

She was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed cooking, cleaning, exercising and making beads. She enjoyed being a "mom" to her children, and in later years enjoyed the company of her grandchildren.

Chhoeut was also a faithful member of the Cambodian Evangelical Church in Attleboro.

In addition to her beloved husband Samoeun and father Sothep Keth, Chhoeut is survived by two sons, Tinny Chem and Peter Chem, both at home in Attleboro; four daughters, Syda Ou, Sydoeun Ou, Nancy Chem and Nasa Chem, all at home in Attleboro; a brother, Chhath Chhem and his wife Saran of Canada; a sister, Chhin Chhiem and her husband Khen Treng of Canada; and five grandsons, Alex Kong, Donovan Try, Devonte Parissi, Davion Parissi and Aiden Try.

Family and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday, May 17, 2008 from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck St., Attleboro followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. in the funeral home conducted by Pastor Saney M. Lee of the Cambodian Evangelical Church, Attleboro. Mrs. Chem will be laid to rest beside her beloved mother, Rom Sek, in North Purchase Cemetery, North Main Street, Attleboro.

Warren Pilling, 88

TROY, N.H. - Warren C. Pilling, 88, of Troy, N.H., died at Langdon Place of Keene on Saturday evening, May 10, 2008 after a long illness.

He was born in Attleboro on Feb. 21, 1920, the son of John and Sarah (Chesworth) Pilling.

Mr. Pilling has been a resident of Troy since 1996, having moved there from East Greenwich, R.I.

He was a World War II veteran and served as a seaman first class with the U.S. Navy.

He was employed as a customer service representative with Nickerson Homes in Orleans prior to his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth L. (Goodell) Pilling of Troy; three daughters, Sarah E. O'Donnell and her husband Francis of Southampton, Mirtha P. Simmons of Elyria, Ohio and Marion D. Stone and her husband Tom of Troy; a brother, David A. Pilling of Center Lovell, Maine; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held in Warren's lifelong church, Community of Christ in Attleboro, on June 22 at 1 p.m.

A graveside service with military honors will be held in the Mountain View Cemetery in Troy on Monday, May 19 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Steven Larson will officiate.

There are no visiting hours.

Ruth Mayer, 86

WRENTHAM - Ruth I. (Donly) Mayer of Wrentham, where she lived since 1948, died, Friday, May 9, 2008 at the Ellis Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Norwood. She was 86.

Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late William and Lena (Wadley) Donly. She was a graduate of North Attleboro High School, class of 1938, and the Department of Mental Health, School of Practical Nursing in 1971.

She worked as an LPN at the former Southwood Community Hospital until her retirement in 1986.

She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, the Altar Guild, and was the director of the Sunday school for 20 years. She was also a former Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader.

She was a great cook, enjoying great family times, and put on the most elegant picnics anyone could imagine.

The wife of the late Oscar L. Mayer, and the former wife of the late George Beard, she was the mother of Kenneth Mayer and his companion Katherine Barrett of Dedham, Marsha L. Boynton and her husband, the Rev. Dana Boynton of Taunton, Dorothy A. Roberts and her husband Peyton of Wrentham, Lenore M. James and her husband Peter of Tampa, Fla., Janice R. McCullough and her husband Richard of Wrentham, and the late George Beard; the grandmother of Merrill and Richard Cheyne of Cataula, Ga., Dana Boynton of Troy, Maine, Beth Beard of Gloucester, Andrew and Dr. Cristen Beard of Southboro, Christopher and Carey Roberts of Lafayette Hill, Pa., Amiee and Brian Zawistowski of Cedar Park, Texas, William and Christine Roberts of Shorline, Wash., Emily and Trevor Williams of Winter Park, Fla., and Heather and Michael Sinks of Fayetteville, N.C.; and is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

A funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 47 East St. (Route 140), Wrentham. Burial will follow at Centre Cemetery in Wrentham.

Gerald Dugan, 79

NORTH ATTLEBORO - Gerald F. Dugan, 79, died at home surrounded by the comfort of his loving family on Monday, May 12, 2008. Gerald was the son of the late M. Madalaine Maddock.

Gerald was born on May 11, 1929 in Braintree.

Gerald proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.

He was employed as a lineman at the North Attleboro Electric Department for 32 years.

Gerald loved to tinker and could fix anything. He enjoyed helping friends and fishing with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing cards with his Sunday morning card group.

He was the loving husband of Patricia Ann Dugan; the beloved father of David S. Dugan and his wife Irene of North Carolina; the brother of Jane Roche of Nantucket, Jayne Wagstaff of Falmouth, the Rev. Jay T. Maddock of Taunton, and the late James Maddock, John Maddock and Paul Maddock; the adoring grandfather of Thomas, James, Kellie and Alyson; and the great-grandfather of Jared.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, May 15 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South St., Foxboro.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 16 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark's Church, North Attleboro, with U.S. Army military honors.
