TRACK: Shamrock squads beat Boxers

Top Headlines The Shamrocks closed out the dual meet season Wednesday with a 70-66 victory over Brockton, a meet that came down to the day's final event before the outcome was settled. The 4x400 relay team of Ethan Loew, Mike Albert, Dan White and Zach Ennis turned in a season-best time of 3 minutes, 36.8 seconds to defeat the Boxers and earn the meet victory as well. "We need meets like this because we don't have enough of them," said Feehan coach Bob L'Homme, whose Shamrocks swept the javelin and both hurdle events "It's always good when you win them, and even better when you beat a team as good as Brockton." Chris Conway came away with wins in the 100 (10.8 seconds) and 110 hurdles (14.5), and J.P. Hendrix captured the high jump (6 feet, 2 inches) and the 300 hurdles (40.5) and finished second in the 110 hurdles. The Shamrocks will take a 9-0 dual-meet record into their participation in the Class C relays on Saturday at Milton High School. Alyssa Rizzo won a pair of events as the girls defeated Brockton, 78-58, in a non-league meet. Rizzo captured the shot put competition with a distance of 27-8 and finished in first place in the discus with a throw of 84-3. Catie Cataldo won the 300 hurdles with a personal-best time of 50.2 seconds and also placed third in the high jump. Laura McNulty captured the high jump with a personal-best height of five feet for the Shamrocks, (8-1). Bishop Feehan will compete in the Class C Relays on Saturday in Milton. Junior Kelly Allen completed the season undefeated in the discus as the girls finished in a tie for sixth place during the Tri-Valley League Championship Meet in Westwood. Hopkinton captured the team crown with a total of 117 points. Millis and Norton tied for sixth with 40 points. Allen captured the discus competition with a distance of 109-7 to complete the season undefeated in that event. She also finished in second place in the shot put with a throw of 34-4. Senior Sarah Doolan placed third in the javelin with a distance of 94-10 and finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 27-5. Freshman Courtney Williams placed second in the 100 meters with a time of 12.5 seconds and was a member of the 4x100 relay team, which finished fourth with a time of 53.1 seconds. Norton will next compete in the South Shore Principals on Saturday, May 24 in Norwell. Junior Gil O'Neill finished undefeated in the 800 meters as the boys finished fourth during the TVL Championship Meet in Westwood. Hopkinton captured the team crown. O'Neill captured the 800 at the league meet with a time of 2:02:60, finishing undefeated in the event for the year. The Lancers also had several third-place performances during the meet. Senior Mark Ledbetter was third in the shot put with a distance of 42-10, while classmate Greg Wry finished third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 43.2 seconds. Junior Emerson Almeida placed third in the 400 meters with a time of 52.7 seconds and senior Brian Bettencourt was third in the 200 with a mark of 23.2 seconds.
