BASEBALL: Seekonk qualifies for tourney
Top Headlines Alex Lyman (three RBI), Dan Charest (two RBI) and Mitch LaChance each socked two hits for the Warriors, who broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning. The Warriors used five hits in that frame, including a two-run homer off the bat of Lyman. Seekonk took the lead with a pair of first inning runs as Jeff Olson and Ron Case (RBI) smacked doubles, followed by an RBI-single from Lyman. Oliver Ames 10, Mansfield 5 EASTON - It took a while, but after losing a 1-0 game to King Philip on Wednesday, the Tigers' bats broke loose in the sixth inning as the team scored six times to defeat the Hornets in a Hockomock League game. Mike Raymo led off the Oliver Ames sixth with a triple and scored on a wild throw back to the infield to tie the game, 5-5. Trevor Lawson added another key hit, an RBI single, to score Andy Bloom and give the Tigers (13-4) the lead for good. Mike Cole had three hits and three RBI. Lawson and Bloom each had two hits and one RBI for OA. Brett Massey was the winning pitcher, turning in two innings of shutout relief. Mansfield, which is now 5-13 overall, will travel to North Attleboro for a league game on Monday afternoon. Southeastern 18, Tri-County 5 EASTON - The Cougars took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Hawks scored seven fifth inning runs to capture the Mayflower League contest. Dan Grillo and Chad Todesco each had two-run doubles to account for the four runs. The Hawks scored three runs in the bottom of the first to cut the deficit to 4-3. Southeastern took the lead at 5-4 with a pair of third inning runs. But, the Cougars bounced back with a run in the top of the fourth to tie the contest at 5-5 as Mike Corning line an RBI single in the top of the fourth. The Hawks then scored four runs in the fourth to reclaim the lead. The Cougars pounded out 14 hits in the game with Todesco leading the way with a 3-for-4 performance that included two singles and a double. Corning also went 2-for-3 with a single and a double. Tri-County, now 9-8 overall and 8-6 in the league, will host Southeastern in a league contest next Thursday afternoon.
