'Who would you like to see be elected the next President and why?'

We asked Page staffers the above question, and here's what they had to say:

I would like to see Hillary Clinton as our next president not because she's a woman, but because I feel that she has experience seeing her husband run the country.

-- Michelle Lee, Norton High School

I'm finally 18 and I'm ready to vote. When I was first asked this question, I answered Hillary Clinton. When I was asked why, all I could say was "because she's a woman." As a registered voter I had to do my part, pay more attention to the news and what's going on. After reading article after article and watching updates on CNN, I can finally answer why I'd like to vote for Hillary Clinton. Clinton is for free health care, bringing home the troops and quality education. Those are three things I'd love to see her accomplish if elected president. I believe Clinton could make a difference.

Wow, its 2008 and November is going to approach us fast. If I was 18, I could tell you straight up, I am voting for Hillary Clinton. Since I am not, I will however tell you I am advocating for her. It's not the fact that she's a woman that I would vote for her, though that's one of the reasons. I am advocating for Hillary Clinton because she is for quality education, universal health care, and bringing home the troops safely. She believes in many of the same things I do. Since I cannot vote, I have to be the voice for change. My voice can possibly empower others to vote for Clinton if they believe in what she wants to do. Clinton is the only candidate who wants change and who is capable of taking back the White House in 2008.

Of all the presidential candidates, I want Barack Obama to win. Though he is the first candidate of African- American descent, this is not the only reason I support him. Like other candidates, Obama promises to end the war in Iraq, but it is his views on other important matters that I support. Healthcare is a critical matter in the United States, too many Americans live every day sick and injured. Unfortunately, these people have no way of retrieving health care and it is important to me that these people are provided help. Immigration is also a matter that I feel strongly about. I agree that our country is a melting pot and we should only encourage that, but there is a surplus of not only legal American citizens but illegal aliens in the United States. The next president needs to gain control over this issue and prevent too many immigrants from coming into the country. Obama wants stronger enforcement at borders but also acknowledges that this country functions because of immigrants.

I would like to see Hillary Clinton because she would be the first woman president and she would set a mark for all the other females who would like to become president.

- Britt Warren, Norton High School

I would like to see Obama elected as our next president. He is a good man who is making politics exciting again. Instead of just managing our country, Obama wants to really unite us so we can all work together. I have faith in him to repair American's recently tainted image.

- Bridget Innes, Norton High School

I would like to see Hillary Clinton elected as the next president. It would be nice to see a woman leader for once and I think it would do this nation a lot of good. Clinton for president!

- Ashley Greco, Norton High School

As the next president, I would like to see Hillary Clinton. The reason why is not only because she is a female but because I honestly think she would do a good job. I think her opinions and outlooks have a good point. I think it's about time that we have a female instead of a male.

- Elizabeth O'Sullivan, Norton High School

I would like to see Hillary Clinton become president because she seems very passionate about her country and she wants to help straighten out the country. Also, she does not seem like she's running for president to boost her political status.

- Kristin Murray, Norton High School

I haven't really been following the debates, so I'm not sure who I would want (the next president) to be. Right now, I don't want Clinton because I don't agree with her views.

- Rachel Ide, Norton High School

(Mitt) Romney should be our next president because I agree with many of his views.

- Nicole Nelson, Norton High School

I think that any of the people running for president will be good for the job because they all seem like they would do or want to make the U.S. better.

- Brian Ahern, Norton High School

I would like to see Hillary Clinton as a president because she's a woman and we never had a woman as a president. Also because she seems like she could be a good president. She has more experience.

- Andrea Striga, Norton High School

I would like to see Hillary Clinton as our president. Not only can she speak properly, she also is experienced. The other presidential candidates haven't seen what it's like. It's also exciting she's a woman.

- Diana Jung, Norton High School

Honestly, I don't like any of these candidates. They don't seem to show any strong traits or purposes. It seems they all say the same thing. But I would like to see the first woman president in the United States.

- Chris Troche, Norton High School

Hillary Clinton should be president because she is a woman and it would be a big step for the first woman president. Having a husband who was already president, she should know what to expect.

- Jen Tessier, Norton High School

I think Barack Obama would make an excellent president. he has a lot of the same goals for our country as I do, and he also has the same opinions as me. He is very confident, but also very personable.

- Rachael Maggiani, Norton High School

I'd like to see Barack Obama elected as president. He'd be he first African-American in office, and he seems to be a good leader.

- Torie Allen, Norton High School

(We) would like to see Hillary win because it would be nice to see how a woman could lead America.

- Meghan McAlpine and Kelsey Goldberg, Norton High School

I would like to see Hillary Clinton win because she is a strong politician. She is very strong and she has experience in the White House and has seen what being president is like.
