The Question

What would you change about your town?

We asked Page staffers, "If you could change something about the town you live in, what would it be and why?" And did they ever respond, from more movie theaters to better school buildings to better skateboard parks. Here's what they had to say:

NORTH ATTLEBORO

North Attleboro is a great place, and because of this, the population is growing rapidly. To address this issue, I would probably build more schools, so class sizes would decrease and more individual attention would be available for students.

- Kate Viles, North Attleboro High School

ATTLEBORO I'm sorry to say it because I love Attleboro, but our downtown is a disaster. Downtown Attleboro is screaming to be cleaned. Everywhere you turn, you can't avoid the spray paint and cigarette butts! It's a tragedy that most of this is due to people's disrespect of the environment and nature. Who could forget what happened last time we tried to make Attleboro pretty? We ended up with dismembered tree branches all along Maple Street.

- Sarah Surprenant, Attleboro High School

One thing I would change about Attleboro is Attleboro High School, because the building needs to be renovated. AHS is an awsome school ... but the building itself needs some changes. Classrooms don't have fans for the hotter months, some have little or no heat during winter months, and there are way too many leaks in the ceiling.

- Kevin Najera, Attleboro High School

If I could change anything about Attleboro, there would be a couple things I would do. I would make another high school because Attleboro High School is getting old and is breaking down. I would also add more social events around the city so Attleboro wouldn't be so boring. An arcade, drive-in, bowling lanes, and ice skating rink would be nice to have around. Also all these new stores are being built around nearby cities, like Patriot Place in Foxboro and the Mansfield Crossing in Mansfield. Having top retailers around Attleboro would benefit the city and the people.

- Dan Silveira, Attleboro High School

If I could change anything about Attleboro I would modernize our city. If you're looking for a night on the town you have the choice of Morin's or Jaec's. Living in Attleboro is like living in the past; there's nothing new and exciting. For one, our school could use some serious remolding; it's one of the oldest buildings in our town.

- Corrin Kershner, Attleboro High School

This will probably sound cliché, but here I go: If there is something I would change about my town it would probably be the way people look at it and what they don't do for it. When you ask, what would you change? I just want to change the way people look at Attleboro because it's really a well rounded town. But if there is something you want to change, be the change and get involved.

- Joey Lazzerini, Attleboro High School If I could change one thing about my community I would add a new recreational center for teenagers. There aren't any places for teens to go after school. If teenagers had more things to do I believe that the crime rate would drop. We should open a place where we can have fun, do sports and other things that we like to do. The recreation should be cheap or even free because not everyone has enough money to join the YMCA or even the Boys and Girls Club. Attleboro doesn't have a lot of places where young ones can go either. Maybe the recreation (center) can have two sections, so we can all be in a fun and safe environment.

- Janelle Johnston, Attleboro High School

If I could change something in Attleboro, I would put something that sort of resembles a type of Seekonk Grand Prix because people would be able to hangout there with their friends and it not only has an arcade, but bumper boats, bumper cars, ect. as well.

- Hannah Quinn, Attleboro High School

If I could change something about Attleboro, I would change the sports fields. We spent so much time and money on Poncin Hewitt, but if it rains everything almost always gets cancelled. The fields should have better drainage or they should be turf, so that they can't be ruined if you play on them in the rain. Also, Poncin Hewitt is really only used by people from the center of town. People like me in South Attleboro have to drive 15-20 minutes to get there. Why not have something so everyone can get out and have fun within a walking distance?

- Brandon Martins, Attleboro High School

If I was to explain Attleboro in one word it would be "boring." After attending school at Attleboro High, there are still a few hours to fill before heading home, but what is there to do? There is nothing in Attleboro for teens to do. There are no shopping centers, no place for teens to hang out, and no movie theater. Therefore, if I was to change just one thing about Attleboro, it would be to add entertainment for teenagers. I would focus on teens because anyone under the age of 16 can't drive, so we're trapped in Attleboro. If there were more things to do, such as places to shop, teens would be less prone to get in trouble.

- Felicia Connolly, Attleboro High School

If I could change one thing about Attleboro, I would change the downtown section since I feel it represents our city. It is really boring and it's just a bunch of abandoned shops. I would enjoy seeing more stores open and running, which would make it look a little nicer as well.

- Gary Smith, Attleboro High School

If I could change one thing about my town I would add more recreational activities. There are not that many things to do on the weekends as a teenager. We like to venture out and try new things such as pool halls, indoor golf or air hockey. A place that resembles Chuck E Cheese but is made for children our age would be something that would make our town a whole lot more fun.

- Lauren Buckman, Attleboro High School

If I could change something about Attleboro I would make one awesome skate park instead of three bad skate parks spread throughout the town. If you put in a new skate park, all the skaters would stay off the streets and we wouldn't get in trouble with the cops.

- Ryan Tardiff, Attleboro High School

Well, since my move from New York, there really isn't any thing to do in Attleboro. Therefore, if I was to change something about the town that I live in it would be to add something that involves all ages, like a mini-Dave & Busters. When I went there it was fun; it had a place to eat, a whole lot of arcades, and much more. Not too many young teens have cars, and mostly everything entertaining is outside of Attleboro. The YMCA, that really isn't all that. I mean, the entrance fee is $5 and then to become a member is much more expensive, and what is there?? A gym to exercise, a pool, I think two basketball courts. Not too many of us go there to exercise, swim or play ball. There really isn't a subway here in Attleboro so places to go are limited. Adding something like a mini-Dave & Busters would be all year long, where all ages should be able to come and hang out, eat and play games. So not only is it fun for friends, it would be a great family night out. That's something I would pay $5 to get into. I know that it probably won't happen, but it's a thought I figured I would share with you.

- Elizabeth Ortiz, Attleboro High School

If I could change one thing about Attleboro it would be to put in an arcade where people could hang out.

- Leo Tyler, Attleboro High School

If I could change something about Attleboro I would put more stores in the center of Attleboro that people actually like to shop in and spots people can hang out in like arcade.

- Chris Torsiello, Attleboro High School

If I could change something about the town I live in, I would build more recreational buildings for kids to go to the play games. Also, maybe build a venue for bands to play in the center of town because I know plenty of kids who have bands that would play.

- Kyle Thomspon, Attleboro High School

If I could change one thing about Attleboro, it would be that we would have more things to do. There aren't that many fun places to go so it can be really boring living here.

- Kristi Pedro, Attleboro High School

To be honest, I've never really liked the center of my town. It's just so boring and as a teenager I wish there was more to do. If I could change it up, I'd add a movie theater or small shopping store. I think it would improve our city if the center of Attleboro had more to offer.

- Lidia Banushi, Attleboro High School

The thing I'd most like to change about my town, Attleboro, is probably the downtown. I've always been a sucker for those quaint towns with their main streets full of cute and/or trendy stores. I'd love to be able to just walk downtown and be able to actually go somewhere and do something; right now downtown is something I tend to just pass on through. Some restaurants, some clothes or items stores, and maybe some other attraction - a theater, perhaps - would be great. I know the city is in the beginning stages of trying to create this kind of downtown, and I hope it works out!

- Kate Nesi, Bishop Feehan High School

MANSFIELD

To make my town of Mansfield better I would simply add a movie theater. It's a huge pain for my parents to drive me ALL the way to North Attleboro every weekend then ALL the way back to Mansfield for about an hour while I see the latest movie. Then they have drive ALL the way back to North Attleboro to pick me up and then ALL the way back to Mansfield again so they can finally go to bed. It would not only save time and money for my parents, but would be a really fun thing for the growing town of Mansfield to have.

- Michelle Roy, Mansfield High School

FOXBORO

Teenagers often complain that there is nothing to do in Foxboro. This is true to some extent since Foxboro is a fairly small suburban town. But I think that many of these complaints result because we are unwilling to search for interesting things to do. Therefore, the one thing I would change about Foxboro is the "there's nothing to do here" attitude. If we could just be creative and make our own fun, then there would always be something exciting and enjoyable to do together.

- Lauren Fisher, Foxboro High School

NORTON

If I could change my town, I'd have everyone vote the override through so we can have money for our schools. It's hard when it seems like not enough people care about education. Another thing I would change is the roads. We have Route 123 that has gone under a lot of construction, and the attempt the town makes in paving it over is only over half the road. Other than that, it's alright.

- Rachel Ide, Norton

One thing I would change in my town would be the override. Our school would get better funding and it would make our lives easier. We would not have to pay for sports, buses, or clubs.

- Michelle Lee, Norton High School

If I could change something about Norton, I would definitely make it more diverse. As a Hispanic male, I am viewed by most as a minority. I have faced many problems living in this "white suburbia" town. Why should any human being have to go through so much if we are all equal? This world becomes harsher each day. Racism has also become more serious. An example of this is the MBTA incident. We all need change: change for today, change for tomororw, and change for Norton!

- Chris Troche, Norton High School

"If I could change something about Norton it would be to incrase diversity. Having a mixture of people would be more of an exposure to the real world."

- Torie Allen, Norton High School

"If I could change one thing about my town, it would be that the high schoolers should go on more field trips to other countries because it is important to learn about different cultures first hand, not just in a classroom."

- Rachael Maggiani, Norton High School

If I could change one thing about Norton, I would want the town to be closer together; we need to have more unity and town spirit."

- Meghan McAlpine, Norton High School

In Norton, I would change the amount of new homes being built. For example, a new development is being built along Route 123 that resembles the "Desperate Housewives" set of Wisteria Lane. The closest houses to the road look like they're less than two yards away. This small town is becoming way too populated.

- Bridget Innes, Norton High School

If I could change something about Norton, I'd change having to pay so much money at school. For example, it costs $150 per sport and the prices for snacks at lunches have increased. It will really add up by the end of the school year.

- Kelsey Goldbert, Norton High School

In Norton, I would change the amount of money gong to the schools. I would increase spending on education and decrease spending on something less important.

- Kristin Murray, Norton High School

In Norton, I would change the way girls sports are looked at. They are not given the same consideration as boys sports. I would also like it if the school had more money for supplies. We have to buy our own paper and other art materials. Basically, Norton schools need more money to do everything.

- Jen Tessier, Norton High School
