Learn about Andrea Doria
NORTH ATTLEBORO - Hear an account of the sinking of the ocean liner SS Andrea Doria at the North Attleborough Historical Society's next meeting on May 19 at the Masonic Lodge at 46 South Washington St., starting at 7:30 p.m.
Dr. William Hanna will tell of his experience in July 1956, when the Andrea Doria collided with the SS Stockholm off the coast of Massachusetts. He spent that summer at his family cottage in Onset watching the ships pass by and convinced himself at the time that he had seen at least one of the boats involved pass by that day and has been interested in the story from that day on. He has interviewed many of the passengers and rescuers. What caused the accident, and who was at fault, has been disputed since that day in 1956.

Grace Church launches Give-A-Bell CampaignNORTH ATTLEBORO - The Bell Choir of Grace Episcopal Church is inaugurating a Give-A-Bell Campaign as part of its ongoing effort to purchase its own set of handbells. Founded in June 2006, the group of about 14 handbell ringers, which plays at the church's regular 10 a.m. Sunday service once each month, has been working with bells leased from another church.
The Give-A-Bell Campaign will allow members of the parish to honor or memorialize loved ones by purchasing and donating one or more hand bells. A personal inscription on the bell handle will carry a message so succeeding generations will remember the donor of the bell he or she rings in every worship service. Prices start at $100 per bell.
