Memorial Day parades in area




Memorial Day will be marked across the area with events, ceremonies and parades on Memorial Day weekend.

Today: Foxboro

At 6 p.m. today, members of Foxboro American Legion Post 93 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2626 will meet at their respective posts and proceed to local cemeteries to place flags on the graves of veterans. Anyone interested in helping is invited to join the effort.

Saturday: North Attleboro

In North Attleboro, at 8 a.m. on Saturday, memorial observances will be held at St. Mary's and Mount Hope cemeteries. All are welcome to attend. At 10 a.m., the parade will step off from the Baptist Common and proceed downtown to Barrows Park, where a ceremony will be conducted. Local officials and dignitaries will speak at the ceremony. Following the ceremony, there will be a dedication of streets.

Seekonk

In Seekonk at 10 a.m., the Seekonk parade will step off from Seekonk High School at 261 Arcade Ave. and proceed onto Newman Avenue to the Hurley Middle School at 650 Newman Ave. The parade will include Scout groups and youth baseball groups, members of the American Legion, and the Seekonk high school and middle school marching bands, along with other school groups. After the parade, there will be a Community Day in the rear of the school.

Sunday: Attleboro

In Attleboro, at 8 a.m. Sunday, May 25, members of the War Veterans Council will participate in the annual Sunrise Service at the Hillside Cemetery. After the sunrise service, at 9 a.m., there will be a short ceremony at the Woodlawn Cemetery at the Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Cannon, followed at 10 a.m. by a Veterans Memorial Service at the Assembly of God Church.

Foxboro

In Foxboro, from 7 to 11 a.m., there will be a breakfast for veterans and residents at the American Legion post at 8 Mechanic St. Buy tickets at the door.

Wrentham

In Wrentham, at 10 a.m., members of American Legion Post 225, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9658 and American Legion Post 225 Auxiliary, will participate in a service at St. Mary's Church in honor of all fallen veterans. All veterans are invited.

Plainville American Legion Post 217 will hold a ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday at 44 South St. in Plainville. That will preceded by a ceremony at the Plainville Cemetery at 1:30 p.m., including a rifle salute and "Taps." Monday: Attleboro

The Attleboro parade will step off at 10:30 a.m. from the Knights of Columbus Hall on Hodges Street, and proceed down County Street to Capron Park, where ceremonies and festivities will take place at about 11:30 a.m.

The Foxboro parade will step off at 9 a.m. from the American Legion post on Mechanic Street and end at the town common.

Mansfield

The Mansfield parade will step off at 10 a.m. from Memorial Park and end at the South Common.

The Norfolk parade will step off at 8 a.m. From Main Street, between the Federated Church and the police station, and end at the Federated Church.

The Norton parade will step off at 10 a.m. from the Yelle Elementary School, where it also will end.

At 10:15 a.m., under the direction of American Legion Post 302, the parade will step off from the Rehoboth Congregational Church in the village. The parade will then proceed to Route 44 and Danforth Street.

Following a brief ceremony at the flag cenotaph, the parade will turn east to the Palmer River School, where memorial services will take place.

The Wrentham parade will step off at 10:30 a.m. from Randall Road Plaza, off South Street, proceed to the Center Cemetery and end at the town common.
