Foxboro teacher arraigned on child pornography charges

FOXBORO - A suspended Foxboro High School English teacher charged with possessing child pornography was released to his parents' custody Monday.

Gregg Woodward, 45, of Milford, was arraigned on a federal indictment in U.S. District Court in Worcester, said Christina DiIorio-Sterling, spokeswoman for U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan.

Woodward's parents were in the courtroom, DiIorio-Sterling said.

Woodward was arrested March 31 and charged on a federal criminal complaint charging him with possession of child pornography after an investigation by the FBI and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement office.

Undercover transactions by federal agents allegedly show that Woodward subscribed to at least two Web sites last year that distribute child pornography. Woodward allegedly paid $94.95 for a 30-day subscription to "RH Collection" on March 16, 2007, and $99.95 for a 30-day subscription to "The Sick Child Room" on June 21, 2007.

If convicted, Woodward faces a maximum of 10 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.

Woodward was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation in April and immediately surrender to U.S. marshals upon his release from the hospital. He then was to face a detention hearing.

DiIorio-Sterling said Woodward has abided by the terms of his release.

Woodward has been suspended without pay from Foxboro High School, where he is in his 12th year. He has taught English, and has served as an adviser to the National Honor Society.

Woodward now faces a July 22 status conference.
