FOXBORO - Advisory committee Chairwoman Lorraine Brue says the Foxboro Dog Park controversy is draining town resources, and that the park should be closed until its value to the town can be weighed.
"It is time to end the diversion of precious tax revenues to fund this emotion driven litigation," Brue wrote to selectmen this week. "It is time to end the town's financial harm and the community divisiveness.
"Manage the town as a business. Close the dog park, settle with the plaintiffs, and then determine if and where the program should be revitalized."
Brue said she plans to ask her board for a vote supporting her proposal.
She wrote that Foxboro's high amount of conservation land helps keep the town attractive but also limits tax-producing growth, according to Town Manager Andrew Gala and Finance Director Randy Scollins.
"Diligent monitoring of the uses of the town's revenue stream is critical for continued successful town management," Brue wrote.
She noted that the town needs to address the proposed $31 million sewer proposal.
Brue asked that selectmen and conservation commission consider what is best for the town, not the plaintiffs or the dog park advocates.
"I certainly believe that there is a significant amount of unbudgeted monies being spent on this situation," Brue wrote.
"As you all know, there are a number of municipal and school departments that could have benefited from those dollars and the precious time of our limited town employees and officials."
