FOXBORO - Selectmen congratulated the Kraft Group on Gillette Stadium's first hosting of the NCAA Lacrosse Championships, saying the town and local businesses also got a boost.
The May 24-26 event brought a payoff to the town in the form of a $310,036 check from Robert Kraft - the town's share of ticket revenue.
Foxboro's take was based on a town "user charge" of $2.33 each for 133,063 tickets sold, according to John P. Mitchell, chief financial officer at the stadium.
Local restaurants, hotels and other businesses benefited from the influx of customers, Selectman Paul Feeney said.
"That's good stuff," Feeney said during the board's meeting last week with Dan Murphy, a vice president with the Kraft Group.
Selectmen congratulated Murphy and his organization for landing the Lacrosse event, which brought the bonus revenue to the town.
Selectmen Chairman Mark Sullivan also praised the Kraft Group for such community contributions as the New England Patriots' new Academic All Stars program, which the team started in partnership with Foxboro High School.
At a stadium luncheon on Thursday, at least 171 Foxboro High School students, picked by their teachers, will be honored for their academic accomplishments.
