NORFOLK - Voters by 2-1 margins shot down two Proposition 2 1/2 overrides in Tuesday's special election.
A debt exclusion for a new public safety building, estimated to cost $14.3 million, lost 1,099-511.
A $414,910 budget override for the fiscal year starting July 1 was defeated by a similar vote total, 1,030-582.
Some 1,616 or just under 27 percent of the town's 6,026 registered voters cast ballots.
The override would have allocated $290,000 to the local schools, $95,000 for the department of public works and just under $25,000 for the library.
The schools' library program and two teachers are slated to be cut, but school board members are considering implementing bus fees for students who live within two miles of schools to make up for part or all of a shortfall.
The Sun Chronicle will have more details later on this Web site and in Wednesday's newspaper.
