Severe storm brings pea-sized hail, flash floods

Pea-sized hail fell during a thunderstorm which moved swiftly through the Attleboro area this afternoon, causing flash flooding on some roads.
The lightning storm also dumped heavy rain, but there were no immediate reports of damage.
On Route 152, the rain was so heavy that drivers pulled over to the roadside until the storm passed.
In Attleboro, police blocked off North Main, Mechanic and John streets because cars were unable to pass through.
In Norton, two people were transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital after a four-car accident outside Wheaton College around 2 p.m. It was unknown if the accident was weather related.
The National Weather Service in Taunton had issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Bristol and Norfolk counties.
The storm started around 1:45 p.m. in Attleboro. The hail fell during about a 15-minute period around 2:40 p.m.
The severe thunderstorm was capable of producing nickel-sized hail and winds of more than 60 mph, according to the weather service.
The storm moved south from Seekonk, north through the Attleboros to Norfolk. The worst of the storm had passed through the area by 3 p.m.
