Rehoboth resident faces fourth offense OUI charge after arrest

REHOBOTH - A local resident was arrested Monday night and charged with a fourth offense of operating a motor vehicle under the influence and assaulting police officers.

Debbie Ramsden, 46, was arrested about 10:20 p.m., police said, after Patrolman Matthew Gardner responded to a two-car motor vehicle accident on Brook Street.

Ramsden was also charged with leaving the scene of personal injury, and operating so as to endanger, police said.

The suspect was transported to the police station, where police said she became combative and smashed a telephone in the booking room before assaulting three officers attempting to restrain her. Ramsden was sprayed with pepper gas during the incident, police added.

Gardner, the arresting police officer, was treated at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, for several cuts to his arm, and released, police said. Ramsden was additionally charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, three counts of assault and battery on a police officer, and two counts of destruction of property.

Ramsden was unable to obtain funds for bail and was transported to the Bristol County Jail.
