NOTESTER: Big changes coming to dining scene




The area's three hottest and biggest new dining out places, destined to change the loal scene forever, are set to open in August - and they're all in the same venue, Patriot Place on Route 1 near the stadium in Foxboro.

Inside and outside CBS Scene will seat 750 people in its three-story building compete with dining area, bar, function space, an audio-visual room and live broadcasts of CBS programs.

Next is Showcase Live, which in addition to dining will offer live musical and other entertainment by headlining stars. The restaurant created by the cinema giant will seat about 500 people.

The third is Bar Louie Tavern and Restaurant, a dining chain that will seat more than 600 inside and out at its Foxboro location.

You can hit the BBQ Trail Monday through Wednesday at Stoneforge Tavern in Raynham, as they offer up grilled dishes from around the world. Recent offerings included hickory prime rib and New Orleans roasted chicken. The next Boston Event Guide Tuesday Tasting will be at Privus on Brighton Avenue in Allston from 6 to 8 Thursday, July 8. You'll be able will be able to sample dishes like Beef Nagima, Mango Salsa Maki, Bob's Maki and assorted vegetable rolls. There will also be a variety of wines to sample. Jenerations on East Street in Downtown North Attleboro is holding a meat raffle 1 to 4 Saturday, July 19, and a whole day of events, raffles and kids games to raise money for breast cancer research. (508.809.6585)

They offer Lager Education Night every Thursday, 5 to 7 at the Buzzards Bat brewery on Horseneck Road in Westport. You get a pint and two refills for 5 bucks. (508.636.2288)

Union Bar & Grille in Boston is offering its second annual Summer BBQ Menu, a three-course prix fixe available through the end of July. It's 33 bucks and includes chilled watermelon salad with watercress, fresh mint and sheep's milk feta; sweet-and-smoky St. Louis ribs with chipotle BBQ sauce, coleslaw and house made pickles, and fresh peach and blueberry cobbler. Wednesdays are prime rib nights and on Thursday you can build your own burger at Casey O'Connor's on North Main Street in Mansfield. And the appetizers are half-priced 3 to 6 every day. (508.339.6203)

They brag that you get free gas with every purchase at Rick's Roadhouse on Richmond Street in Providence. Let The Notester know what kind of gas they're talking about. (401.272.7675)

They're serving the Cape Cod lobster dinner noon to closing at Hearth 'n' Kettle on Route 1 in South Attleboro. It incudes lobster, corn on the cob, linguica and red bliss potatoes, all for 21 bucks. It's summertime and the living is easy. For instance: You can eat under the stars by the fire pit at the Pearl on Charles Street in Providence Tuesdays through Saturdays (401.331.3000), and they can seat up to 40 people on the sidewalk outside Bravo Brasserie on Empire Street in Providence, where every Sunday in June the Alex Chapman Trio plays noon to 4. You'll get two poached eggs topped with guacamole and served over tomato, bacon and an English muffin when you order a California Benedict from the specials menu at The Breakfast Place on Pleasant Street in Attleboro. (thebreakfastplace.com and 508.226.5680) The Home Grown Menu is back at EVOO in Boston. It's a three-course prix fixe meal with a choice between six starters and six entrees packed with seasonal, locally grown products. They're 35 bucks, 50 with wine. The menu will change on an almost daily basis depending on what's fresh. (617.661.3866)

Le Central on Hope Street in Bristol has added a lot of local products to its menu, including Round the Bend Farm Pork from Dartmouth, Shy Brothers Farm Hannabells cheese from Westport, Ramos Farms Produce in Bristol and Sakonnet Oysters from Little Compton. Recent menu items included house-cured pork belly, pork chop, Ramos Farm Spicy Greens, Hannahbells Flan and Pork-Thyme Jus Risotto of Hannahbells Cheese. (lecentralbristol.net and 401.396.9965)

The Italian Arts and Music Festival is Thursday, Aug. 7, through Monday, Aug. 11, in downtown Providence. Look for food, beverages and souvenirs at the main stages at Bank of America Skating Center and at Gardner-Jackson Park on South Main Street. There will be a tribute to Mario Lanza with full orchestra.

Chef-owner Marc Orfaly has proclaimed this the summer of the oyster at Pigalle, his award-winning Theater District restaurant. Kumomotos, or locally grown varieties from the cool waters of Duxbury and Wellfleet, are a buck apiece for diners at the bar or on the patio.(617.423.4944)

Shopping Federal Hill, an insider's culinary tour with Cindy Salvato, are scheduled for three Saturdays, Aug. 23 and 30 and Sept. 13, 9 to noon. On the tour Cindy describes each retailer and introduces guests to chefs, bakers and ravioli makers, and you get to sample cheese, antipasto, bread, wine, chocolates and cookies. It's 45 bucks. Excelsior in Boston has lined up 12 weeks worth of entrees highlighting the lobster, and each week throughout the summer they roll out a new preparation for 30 bucks Monday through Thursday. (617.426.7878)

The Towers on Ocean Road in Narragansett has Wednesday lunch buffets from 11:30 to 2 through Aug. 20. It's 12 bucks, 8 for kids. (401.789.9229 and 401.782.2597)

The Summer Series is underway at Sage in Boston. Starting on Sunday nights, the series features a week's worth of events and seasonal specials. On Sundays you'll find Domenico Classico a three-course, family-style menu of Italian fare priced for 28 bucks a person. Mondays are movie nights, when they screen classics like "La Dolce Vita" and "Il Postino." They have a complimentary antipasto bar available 5:30 to 7:30 on Tuesdays and Thursday, and after 9 on Wednesdays it's Gelato Night at 8 bucks a pop. Then there's Martini Fridays, with new martini specials going for 5 bucks. (617.248.8814)

The Charlestown Seafood Festival is Friday through Sunday, Aug. 1-3, at Ninigret Park on 1A in Charlestown. Besides the seafood there's live entertainment every day and rides for the kids. (401.364.4031)

In celebration of three decades of doing business in Boston, Icarus is offering three-course dinner for 30 bucks through mid-August. (617.426.1790)

Capital Grille at Union Station in Providence has a wine dinner menu on Sundays and Mondays. The three-course dinner gives you a choice of entrees from grilled New York sirloin, grilled filet mignon, whole-grain mustard glazed salmon and sauteed chicken with porcini and ricotta filled tortelloni. They have daily lobster specials at Kingfish Hall at Faneuil Hall in Boston for the month of July. Look for pan-seared lobster with warm Yukon potato salad, grilled lobster with fiddleheads and shallot cream, or a brown butter lobster slider. And they're only 25 bucks. (617.523.8862)

They seat 35 outside and another 35 inside at the new digs of Starboard Galley on Charlestown Beach Road in Charlestown. And they have an indoor stage for entertainment, too. (starboardgalleyrestaurant.com and 401.364.7100)

Shula's 347 on the city side of Atwells Avenue at the Hilton in Providence now offers lunch and dinner on their patio. (donhula.com and 401.709.0347)

More than 150 wineries will be popping corks at the Newport Mansions Wine and Food Festival Sept. 25 through 28. Also look for dining opportunities, seminars and cooking demos.

On Tuesdays they offer Bubbles & Oysters at OM Restaurant

Lounge on Harvard Square in Boston. Between 5 and 7 in the lounge or patio they pair a half dozen Duxbury oysters with Moet et Chandon for 25 bucks. (617.576.2800)

The New England Oyster Festival will be held the weekend of Sept. 27-28, on the waterfront in Newport.
