Seekonk, unions still negotiating contracts

SEEKONK - Negotiations with the unions representing the town's municipal employees are ongoing, said Town Administrator Michael Carroll.

The contracts for seven unions, which represent police officers, firefighters, public works employees, town hall clerks and supervisors, library workers and emergency dispatchers all expired on Monday.

Carroll confirmed that, although the town had "made progress on some proposals", they were still trying to reach agreements on others.

Due to the negotiations, Carroll could not get too specific about details.

Mediators to assist Mediators will assist with the unions representing the Police Department and the Department of Public Works. Discussions with the other 5 unions will continue.

All contracts have "evergreen" clauses, which guarantee the terms of the contracts will remain in place after the expiration date.
