Military will dedicate training facilities in memory of fallen




REHOBOTH - A ceremony to dedicate new training facilities in memory of two Massachusetts Army National Guard Soldiers who were killed in action while serving in Afghanistan is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, June 7 at Camp Edwards.

The Tactical Training Base will be named in honor of Sgt. Michael J. Kelley of Scituate. Kelley was assigned to Battery E (Target Acquisition), 101st Field Artillery Regiment, Rehoboth.

Kelley died on June 8, 2005, in Shkin, Afghanistan, when his helicopter landing zone came under enemy fire.

The Military Operations on Urbanized Terrain training site will be named in honor of Maj. Jeffrey R. Calero, of Queens Village, New York.

The 104th Fighter Wing of the Massachusetts Air National Guard has planned a fly-over of F-15 Eagles, and Battery A, 1st Battalion (Fires), 101st Field Artillery Regiment of the Massachusetts Army National Guard has planned a cannon salute in tribute to Calero and Kelley.
