NAU took control of its first contest against South County YSC Shooters, scoring three first half goals, including two from right forward Brooke Maher and one from center forward Hannah Wolf.
Assisting on the scores were Jamie Grinavic, Tess McCarthy, and Wolf on the second Maher goal. NAU broke the contest open seven minutes into the second half on scores by Grinavic and Kayla McCarthy in the 8-0 win.
Second half scoring was highlighted by an all sister score as Coryn Maher took a nifty pass from her sister Brooke, walked in alone on the goalkeeper, and slid the ball inside the far right post.
In the second contest against the host team, Coventry's CSARI Rhody's, NAU scored on a breakaway by forward Tess McCarthy, on a throw in by Natasha Gavilanez to forward Brooke Maher, and with constant pressure on the opposing goalkeeper, including Jamie Grinavic with an unassisted goal and Hannah Fisher with a point blank deflection off the Coventry goalkeeper.
Rounding out the scoring in the 7-0 victory were Coryn Maher and Brooke Maher who contributed three goals.
NAU's stiffest test came in the third game against Cranston's CLCF Comets, who entered the match at 2-0.
Forward Tess McCarthy opened the scoring 15 minutes in and later Caity Vogt later assisted on a Hannah Wolf score to give NAU a 2-0 halftime lead. Wolf scored two more second half goals and, along with scores from Brooke Maher and Jamie Grinavic, put the contest out of reach with the final score being 6-0.
The highlight was a score by Grinavic who spun a corner kick from the left corner directly into the goal.
The victory gave NAU a perfect 3-0 mark and the outright tourney title. Throughout the weekend, NAU received solid contributions from Katie Minichiello and Ashley Carter, and outstanding defensive work from Erica LaFond, Cassie Smith, Corrine McElwee, Coryn Maher, and Natasha Gavilanez as they limited their opponents scoring opportunities in support of NAU goalkeeper Jess Schlicting, who was unscored upon in tournament.
NAU Red earned runner-up status in the U12 division, finishing with a record of 3-1.
In the first game, NAU beat Warwick Firefighters 5-0. Mallorie Lindo scored two goals and was selected as offensive player of the game. Lizzy Dietz had two goals with Heather Davis netting one. Gwyn Tacchi was selected as defensive player of the game. Akeda Hunter led several offensive rushes on right wing, including an assist.
In the second game, NAU beat CLCF 6-0. Dietz scored two goals with other goal scorers being Lindo, Courtney Hewett, Jamie Difilippo and offensive player of the game Allie Grinavic. Emily Chandran was selected as the outstanding defensive player. Goalie Shelby Hogan recorded the shutout in both games.
NAU fell to the eventual tournament winner Seals 3-1 in the third game.
Offensive player of the game Davis got the lone goal, while Shahsa Graves was selected as the top defensive player. In the final game, NAU secured second place with a 3-0 victory over Chariho.
Goalkeeper Nicole LaFond notched the shutout and was selected as the outstanding defensive player, making a point-blank save midway through the second half to preserve a 1-0 lead. Hogan started the scoring with a goal, being selected as offensive player of the game.
Danielle Demore played outstanding defense and also starred in the offensive zone. Dietz scored a pair of late goals, her third two-goal performance of the weekend, to put the game out of reach.
