James Taylor, who more and more has switched to smaller arenas as his most effective way of presenting his music, has sold out two nights at the Tanglewood summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra July 3 and 4.
The dual concerts are part of a 32-date U.S. and Canada tour to promote his One Man Band album of cover songs along with his inimitable originals. The "Band of Legends" moniker he's attached to the summer tour is increasingly appropriate as Taylor, a living legend himself, refuses to wind down a career that has spanned all or parts of five decades.
No JT? You can catch Carole King, equally legendary singer-songwriter, contemporary and sometime collaborator, July 12 the MGM Grand Theatre at Foxwoods. Tickets to the show can be purchased at mgmatfoxwoods.com or calling 617-931-2000.
Carly Simon, James' famous ex and a formidable singer, can occasionally be seen at benefits and unannounced performances. However, we see nothing cooking publicly for her at present.
Carly fans will be pleased to know, however, that a CD of her rare recording with sister Lucy as The Simon Sisters is still available on Amazon.com. The sisters, who made several records before Carly hit it big, made only 4,000 copies of the CD. When they're gone, they're gone.
