Three held in golf course vandalism

REHOBOTH - Three suspected vandals were arrested late Thursday night, allegedly for damaging putting greens and golf carts at the Sun Valley Country Club on Summer Street.

The suspects were arrested after 11 p.m., when Officer Paul Terenzi was conducting a routine check at the golf course at 329 Summer St., on the Seekonk line.

While conducting the check, Terenzi could hear voices laughing and yelling and located the suspects on the course. He radioed his position and called for back up, police said.

The suspects briefly attempted to run away, but surrendered when they discovered police had surrounded them.

Arrested were Seekonk residents Matthew C. Arps, 18, of 35 Gude St., Christopher Hudson, 18, of 508 County St., and Jason Berntson, 17, of 121 West Ave. They face charges of defacing property, a felony, in Taunton District Court.

Police said three golf carts were damaged and Sun Valley staff was assessing the damage to the course on Friday.
