Another Norton health board member will be stepping down
Top Headlines Karen Doucette resigned Tuesday, citing "unfortunate circumstances," Selectmen Chairwoman Mary Steele said Thursday night. Doucette resigned 13 days after citizen-at-large Anthony Bono stepped down for health reasons and because he is moving to Middleboro. Selectmen on Thursday appointed a veteran town official to serve until June 30, 2009, when Bono's term was to expire. Robert Medeiros served 30 years on the conservation commission, ending on June 30. "I think his experience will be a major plus to the board of health," Selectman Robert Kimball Jr. said. Selectmen also advertised for candidates for the health board's medical or health-related field professional seat, which Doucette had held. The board's most senior member now has less than a year of experience. Flint Lane resident Steven Corr was appointed to the engineer seat by selectmen in January. Doucette had served as acting chairman since Bono resigned. She served as director of the Norton-Mansfield-Sharon Tobacco Control Program before state budget cuts closed it in November 2002. Selectmen will appoint someone to serve until June 30, 2010, when Doucette's term was to expire. Applicants are asked to submit a letter of introduction, including a statement of their qualifications, to the selectmen's office at town hall, 70 East Main St., by Aug. 6.
