ATTLEBORO - Twelve local teens - ranging in age from 11-17, from Attleboro, North Attleboro, Mansfield, Wrentham, Sharon, Arlington, Weston, and Portsmouth, R.I. - will bring their talents to the Christopher Heights assisted living facility at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 for a free concert for the residents.
The students, who will have attended a five-day summer vocal intensive program at Barbieri Voice Studio in Attleboro, will each perform a solo that they have perfected during their classes.
The program, which runs Aug. 4 -8 at the Florence Hayward Sweet Clubhouse in Attleboro, includes classes on classical and musical theatre vocal technique, healthy belting, music theory (how to read music), stage deportment, practice techniques, health and fitness for singers, and more.
There will also be guest speakers during the week who will work on how to stage a musical number with the singers. The singers will get private attention, like a mini-private lesson, as well as many master classes. Classes are taught by Scott Nicholas and Linda Barbieri.
Scott Nicholas, piano, has performed in Europe, Latin America and all over the United States. He has been the rehearsal and performance pianist for The Tanglewood Festival Chorus, The Boston Pops, Minnesota Opera and many others. He is on the faculty of Emerson College and Suffolk University. Linda Barbieri, soprano, is an active performer in the New England area. She has sung with The Bostonians, Longwood Opera, Opera Providence and others. She teaches private voice lessons at The Barbieri Voice Studio in Attleboro.
A second performance will be held 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 at the Sweet Clubhouse. This performance will include solos by all the singers, as well as duets, trios, and larger ensemble numbers.
This will be a formal dress concert for all of the singers' family and friends.
