NOTESTER: Wine, beer on tap in Bristol




The Bristol County Lions Club is holding its 12th Annual Wine and Beer Festival and East Bay Pizza Challenge on Sep. 12, 6 to 9, at historic Linden Place in Bristol.

Local wines from the Coastal Wine Trail as well as selections from the West Coast, South America and Europe will be available for tasting. Rhode Island brewers will also be offering samples of their latest beers. And you can sample pizza from local restaurants.

Proceeds benefit Ronald McDonald House, Hasbro Children's Hospital, Good Neighbors Soup Kitchen, the Linden Place Restoration Fund, Adopt-a-Family, eyeglasses and exams, college scholarships, local libraries and Thanksgiving Baskets. Last year's event raised over 8,000 bucks.

Bella Vista on Elm Street in North Attleboro is celebrating its six-months anniversary by offering a three-course meal plus a glass of house wine for 20 bucks. Joseph Hafner, the executive chef at Gracie's in Providence, is cooking at the James Beard House in New York City on Monday, a real plum for any chef, but if you can't make it, Gracie's will feature highlights of the menu tomorrow and Saturday. Dinner will include Point Judith bluefish rillettes with tomato crumpets, sherry-glazed beets with Narragansett Creamery angelito, almond crispies, veal roulade with country bacon and basil, and crisp veal sweetbreads with Peppadew gastrique and creamed garlic fondue, plus .a new dessert creation, Baked Rhode Island - coffee milk rocky road ice cream with Kenyon's Johnnycake and marshmallow meringue.

Dunkin' Donuts this month is launching better-for-you options on its new menu, called DDSMART. It includes new and existing Dunkin' food and beverages that contain at least 25 percent fewer calories, 25 percent less sugar, fat, saturated fat or sodium than comparable fare, or ingredients that are nutritionally beneficial. Look for Egg White Flatbread Sandwiches, coffees, lattes and espressos using skim milk and a sugar substitute.
