Travis joins town's redevelopment panel

After more than a year-and-a-half of delay, Luke Travis has been appointed to the town's redevelopment authority.

The redevelopment authority was formed in the fall of 2006 to revitalize the town's blighted areas, beginning with the dilapidated downtown.

The board is composed of four members appointed by the board of selectmen and one member, Travis, appointed by the state; however, Travis' application had not been acted on for nearly two years.

He has attended all of the board's meetings, but was unable to participate as an official member until the appointment.

Travis is a lawyer concentrating in the areas of estate planning, Medicaid planning, real estate conveyancing, land use, zoning, estate administration and small business representation. He has lived in Plainville for 13 years. "Luke's legal experience will prove very beneficial to his work on the redevelopment authority board and to the Town of Plainville," said state Sen. Scott Brown, R-Wrentham, in a written statement.

"We are happy to bring him on board."

Additionally, the redevelopment authority is still looking for someone interested in filling a new vacancy on the board. The committee meets once a month and is responsible for creating and implementing plans for redevelopment.

If you're interested in serving, fill out an availability card at town hall or call the selectmen's office at 508-695-3010, ext. 11.

Another opening

The school committee also has a vacancy on the board. Interested candidates must be a registered voter in the Town of Plainville and should complete an availability card at the selectmen's office in town hall this week.

The school committee and board of selectmen will be interviewing potential candidates at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 16 in the Jackson School media center, and will make a joint appointment for the one-year term. Interested candidates with any questions should call school committee Chairman Patrick Murphy at 508-695-3350.
