Vegetables sought for Hebron food pantries

ATTLEBORO - Fresh produce is being sought as donations to the Working Person's & Senior's Food Pantries.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 11, you can drop off any quantity of any vegetable or fruit anytime on any Monday through Thursday. Please leave items outside the door at 11 Sanford St. at the corner of North Main Street. The door is down the ramp to the lower level. Look for the Hebron Village Outreach Center, Inc. sign facing the YMCA, which is across Sanford Street.

Volunteers will bring in your contributions daily. Someone will be there on Mondays and Wednesdays, beginning Wednesday, Aug. 13, from 5 to 6 p.m. if you prefer to personally deliver your contributions.

Park concerts to resume Thursday
ATTLEBORO - Free outdoor concerts once again are being offered to the public when the City of Attleboro and its Park Commission present their Capron Park Summer 2008 Concert Series, now through Aug. 28.

The concert series, organized by the Park Commission, has been made possible for the last several years by the S.M. Stone Memorial Trust Fund.

The concerts will be performed from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday evenings from the Capron Park Newell Shelter. Those attending are urged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating. For more information, call Heather Uriot at the Park Department at 508-226-6487. Concerts will include:

Knights to hold bingo Aug. 22

ATTLEBORO - The South Attleboro Knights of Columbus, Route 123, will hold bingo at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22. Doors will open at 5:30 and the kitchen serve hamburgers, hot dogs and fries.

Take lunch break with lobster roll


ATTLEBORO - The next take-out lobster roll lunch at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Attleboro will be held Friday, Aug. 22. The lunch comes with a roll filled with chunky lobster meat on a thin bed of lettuce (with or without mayo), chips, pickle, cookie, and choice of soda or water.

The boxed lunches are $9.50, and can be picked up at the best time for you between 6:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Order by calling 508-222-1759, faxing 508-222-2326 or e-mailing centumc@verizon.net. Pickup is at the Methodist Church, at the corner of North Main and Sanford streets across from the YMCA, in downtown Attleboro.

The deadline to order is Monday, Aug. 18. If you leave a message, please tell how many lunches; whether you want Coke, Diet Coke, ginger ale or water; mayo and the pickup or delivery time you prefer. Some extras will be available for instant pickup on Friday, Aug. 22. The church also offers business and professional delivery for group orders.

Brown to hold summer office hours

State Sen. Scott Brown will be holding office hours throughout his district. No appointment is necessary.

Office hours will be held on the first and third Thursday of the month at the following times and locations:

Summer wellness programs at Y


ATTLEBORO - A series of adult wellness programs will be offered at the YMCA of Attleboro through Aug. 30.

Arrythmia course offered at Sturdy

ATTLEBORO - Sturdy Memorial Hospital's Nursing Education Department will sponsor a basic arrhythmia course for anyone interested in learning cardiac dysrhythmia interpretations.

The course is a five-week program offered in two sessions. The program runs on the following dates: Aug. 26 and Sept. 2, 9, 16, and 23. Participants can choose to attend session A, which runs from 12:15 to 2:45 p.m. or session B, which runs from 3:45 to 6:15 p.m. Topics to be covered include: anatomy and physiology, atrial dysrhythmias, nodal dysrhythmias and heart blocks, ventricular dysrhythmias, and a workshop and exam.

AYS night set for Aug. 30 at Gillette

ATTLEBORO - Attleboro Youth Soccer night will be Saturday, Aug. 30 at Gillette Stadium. Grief series starts at VNA on Sept. 3

ATTLEBORO - A six-week adult grief education series, offering a learning and supportive experience to begin the journey toward healing, will be presented by Community VNA Hospice Care from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning Sept. 3.

Aging issues are topic of workshop

ATTLEBORO - Congregation Agudas Achim, 901 North Main St., will host a workshop at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9 titled "Issues with Aging: A Program for Individuals, Families, and Caregivers."

It will be presented by Patty Harwood, director of senior services of Jewish Family Service in Providence. The presentation will include a discussion on aging issues, including coping with illness and loss, moving from independent to supported living arrangements, finding community support, coping with loss of independence, ways families and caregivers can help and be supportive, and negotiating decisions about end-of-life issues.

The workshop is part of The Kesher Program, a partnership between Congregation Agudas Achim, Jewish Family Service, and the Jewish Federation of RI to provide an onsite social worker to assist members of the congregation during life transitions and crises.

'Holy Roller' ride to Food and Friends


ATTLEBORO - The Attleboro Area Council of Churches is looking for motorcyclists to participate in a "Holy Roller Ride-A-Thon" to benefit the Food and Friends Soup Kitchen Program.

This event is being held in partnership with LaSalette Shrine and Outlaw BBQ on Saturday, Sept. 13.

The ride will begin and end at LaSalette. Donations are being raised through rider and passenger entry fees, plus Ride-A-Thon sponsor pledges.

Following a blessing of the bikes and a light breakfast, riders will follow a scavenger hunt route to pick up small items for the supply bank at participating churches. Upon completion of the Holy Roller Ride-A-Thon, registered participants will be treated to a meal, musical entertainment and festivities.

ATTLEBORO - The Attleboro High School Hockey Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 13 at Swansea Country Club.

Tournament proceeds will be used to help with the Attleboro High School varsity and junior varsity hockey teams' expenses.

ATTLEBORO - The Friends of Attleboro Animal Shelter are seeking crafters, artisans, and retail vendors for the fifth annual Harvest Fest, to be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 on the shelter grounds.

The event will feature pony rides, an apple pie contest, music, children's activities, refreshments, and more. Spaces are 10' x 10' and are $30 each. Multiple tables are welcome.

AHS class of '68 seeking classmates

ATTLEBORO -The Attleboro High School Class of 1968's Web site, www.attleborohighclassof68.org, has received more than 100 hits. The class is trying to get an idea of how many are planning on attending and asks that classmates sign up as soon as possible.

Money is not needed yet. The reunion will be held Sunday, Sept. 28 at Country Gardens in Rehoboth. Those who are in contact with classmates who have moved out of the area are asked to let them know.

SHINE program to train volunteers

ATTLEBORO - Volunteers are being recruited for the Serving the Health Information Needs of Elders program, known as SHINE.

Those who have eight hours or more per month, and would like to help senior citizens understand health insurance coverage, are sought. SHINE counselors are trained and certified by the Executive Office of Elder Affairs.

ATTLEBORO - New Hope, the local domestic violence and sexual assault agency, is looking for dedicated and compassionate volunteers to join its Rape Crisis Advocate Team.

As part of the on call response team, rape crisis advocates meet survivors at hospitals and police stations and provide crisis intervention, support and referrals.

Alzheimer's support group meets monthly

ATTLEBORO - Community VNA hosts a monthly support group designed for caregivers of persons with Alzheimer's disease or related dementias.

Joyce Colletto, RN, the Alzheimer programs liaison, will facilitate. This group meets the first Tuesday of each month from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Community VNA, 10 Emory St.
