PawSox closing in on records

PAWTUCKET - With a playoff berth safely tucked away in their back pocket, the Pawtucket Red Sox are now trying to set some franchise records.

Pawtucket took a step towards one team record Monday night with a 4-2 win over Lehigh Valley.

The PawSox (81-56) need to win three of their final six regular-season games to break the team record of 83 wins set in 2003. Also on the line is the highest winning percentage in franchise history (.579 in 1978). Pawtucket's winning percentage is .591 after Monday's victory.

The PawSox fell behind 2-0 as the Iron Pigs scored two runs on five hits in the second inning. Eric Hull was the spot starter and worked a solid five innings for Pawtucket, striking out seven. Jose Vaquedano (4-1) got the win with 12/3 innings of shutout relief while Jon Switzer struck out three of the five men he faced. Kyle Snyder worked a scoreless ninth for his first PawSox save.

Offensively, Josh Wilson and Jeff Corsaletti provided two-run singles and Joe Thurston added three hits.
