WRENTHAM - King Philip DECA students once again stood out in international competition.
Twenty KP students represented the school at the 62nd International Career Development Conference of DECA, the association of marketing students, held in Atlanta.
KP students took 40 percent of the awards given to Massachusetts DECA students, and only eight DECA chapters in the state had students place in the competition finals.
Fifteen KP students were involved in competitive events, four took part in workshops presented by nationally known leaders in marketing and education, and one student served as a national voting delegate.
Dan McKinney and Matt Schoenewolff received bronze medals for their international business plan project. They were among just five students from Massachusetts receiving medals.
Several other KP students received certificates of achievement for excellence by exceeding standards of competence established by National DECA for various competitive areas. Fewer than 3 percent of international marketing students receive such awards each year.
The KP students so honored were: Carly McPhee and Caitlin Nevins, community service manual; Nora Lehan and Michelle Daly, creative marketing manual; Heather Nickerson and Jessica Peck, entrepreneurship manual; Alex Lannigan, international business manual; Shawn Bradford and Caitlin Burgess, general marketing manual; and Matt Schoenewolff and Dan McKinney, international business manual.
"These students are a remarkable group," KP DECA teacher James Dow said. "They have carried on the proud tradition of King Philip DECA."
Students at the event came from all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, South Korea, Germany, Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The students qualified by placing highly at the Massachusetts DECA State Conference held in Boston.
District competition preceded that.
