WRENTHAM - The town will be getting a makeover as the Seventh Annual Keep Wrentham Beautiful Day is on for Sunday, Sept. 7, the day after Wrentham Day.
The cleanup will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with residents asked to meet at the town center parking lot.
Residents are urged to select areas of town to pick up litter and bring the trash and separated recyclables to the parking lot. The DPW will collect the trash.
The event has been held the past few years the same weekend as Wrentham Day to make it a "Wrentham Weekend."
Barbara Keane, who has organized the event since she started it in 2002, says the cleanup will "help to make Wrentham cleaner and healthier."
About 100 people, including scouts and other groups, pitch in each year.
"As our town has grown, so has our trash problem. Dedicating one day a year to this issue helps us to stay focused on one of our most basic objectives," Keane said. "Despite the best efforts of DPW, excess trash manages to pile up in our town, but we can join in and make a difference."
Residents are asked to organize friends, neighbors or group members.
People can pick up trash anytime prior to the cleanup day if it is more convenient, but it must be dropped off at the center parking lot during the above date and times.
Regular trash bags may be used and only garbage from public areas and roadways may be collected.
Volunteers are advised to use gloves and wear proper clothing to protect themselves.
"We track the amounts and areas of collection," Keane said. "DPW will focus on our identified problem areas throughout the year."
