Samples from local restaurants and caterers will titillate your taste buds at the Tri-Town Chamber's Oktoberfest on Tuesday, Oct. 7, to benefit area food pantries.

The event will he held under a tent at Mansfield Crossing.

Tomorrow night is prime rib night at Jenerations on East Street in Downtown North Attleboro. Bring the coupon from Monday's Sun Chronicle for a bargain price. Jimmy's Pub on North Main Street in Downtown Mansfield has a good idea for football fans: Grab a meal at Jimmy's and then hop the Pats express train at the nearby station for a ride to Gillette.

They boast about "good home- cooked meals at low prices" at D & D Breakfast & Luncheon Shoppe on Man Mar Drive in Plainville.

Sunday, Sept. 14, is the first annual Bay State Farmed Shellfish Shindig at the Boston Beer Company Brewery in Jamaica Plain, where growers from all over Massachusetts will be shucking, sauteing and searing. September is cocktail month at Rialto in Boston, and you'll be offered signature cocktails paired with a selection from the antipasti menu for 12 bucks. (617.661.5050)

The Dinner Music Series is back on Saturday nights at Island Merchant on the Cape. Look for a mix of jazz, acoustic and piano music. (508.771.1337)

They have a Friday Flight School for beer or wine at 606 Congress in Boston from Friday, Sept. 12, through Friday, Oct. 10. The flights, served 5 to 7, will be accompanied by light bites and cost 5 bucks - which will be donated to Save the Harbor/Save the Bay. (617.476.5606)

Rocca on Harrison Street in Boston has resumed its three-course Sunday Supper prix fixe, 5:30 to 10 for 22 bucks. (617.451.5151)

Going South

They're having a Chinese Dumpling Eating Contest at the Chinese Dragon Boat Races and Taiwan Day Festival, at the School Street Pier in Pawtucket. Pay 10 bucks, win and you get 200 bucks. (401.724.2200)

Westport Rivers Vineyard & Winery on Hixbridge Road in Westport will hold an Edible South Shore Launch Party and fundraiser for SEMAP on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 1 to 3 p.m. Look for music and samples from local farms and artisanal producers. (westportrivers.com and 508.636.3423.x2)

Cigar Masters Providence at the Westin's grand opening runs from Tuesday through Saturday, with drinks, food, and cigars.

The Genesis Center is the site of Food for Thought Thursday, Sept. 25, at the Botanical Center of Roger Williams Park in Providence. Food samples from 30 restaurants will be paired with wines from seven local vineyards, all for 50 bucks. VIP Champagne hour is 5:30 to 6:30 and 100 bucks.

Saturday is Vasa Day at Little Rhody Vasa Park on the Boswell Trail in Foster, starting at 11. Look for hot dogs, Swedish breads and baked goods will be available during the celebration. Dinner is at 5 and includes baked stuffed chicken, boiled red potatoes, pickled beets, green beans and corn bread. Tickets are 13 bucks for adults and 6 bucks for kids under 12 and under. Chez Pascal on Hope Street in Providence is holding its five-course Homage to the Tomato dinner Monday. It's 60 bucks. (401.421.4422)
