Clutch Vijay
Vijay Singh's OT victory in The Barclays last week improved his sudden-death playoff record to 8-4 in his career. His eight playoff wins are good for sixth in PGA Tour history, trailing Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer (14), Sam Snead (12), Tiger Woods (11) and Tom Watson (9).
A Great Day
Glen Day, ranked 111th in the FedEx Cup standings going into the DBC, is on a roll. He has the longest current streak of consecutive rounds of par or better at 21. He's also made nine cuts in a row. Day will have to continue shooting par or better if he hopes to move on in the FedEx Cup, as only the top 70 players after the tournament move on to the next event.
Five Rookies Still Around
Five rookies are left in the PGA Tour Playoffs for the FedEx Cup - Kevin Streelman, Chez Reavie, Michael Letzig, Jason Day and Martin Laird. Both Day and Laird played their way into the top 120 last week at The Barclays to advance to the DBC. Laird finished tied for seventh while Day was tied for 31st to make this week's field. All the newcomers but Streelman, ranked 37th, will need a solid performance this week to stay in the hunt for the FedEx Cup. Reavie ranks 60th, Laird 67th, Day 96th, and Letzig 117th.
The rookies also made the biggest leaps in the standings. Streelman led all players with a jump of 65 places, while Laird was not far behind, jumping 61. Kevin Sutherland moved up 54, Paul Casey jumped 52 spots, and Mathew Goggin moved up 50 spots. |
