Wheaton continues dominance over BSC
Top Headlines Ranked sixth in New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), Wheaton remained unbeaten at 2-0-1, while the Bears suffered their first loss in three games. Wednesday's game was a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament first-round game played in Norton, which resulted in a 2-0 Wheaton win. Sophomore Josh Solomon (Acton/Acton-Boxboro) led the Lyons with two goals, his first multi-goal game, including his first game-winner in a Wheaton uniform. Less than three minutes after Bridgewater State tied the match at 1-all, Solomon converted a long throw-in from sophomore Jake Wagner (Sudbury/Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) in the 84th minute. Three sophomores combined on the Lyons' opening score, with Solomon picking up his first goal of the season. At the 12:35 mark, Solomon tallied the game's lone first-half mark with assists going to David Ferriero (Medway) and co-captain Yuri Moreira. Wheaton's defense held firm throughout, not allowing a goal until the 81st minute, as the Bears cracked the scoreboard on a corner kick, sophomore Donald Flores connecting with junior Matt Daniels (South Easton/Oliver Ames). Lyon sophomore goalie Cole Davidson finished with three stops, while Bear senior keeper Ryan Seifert had five saves. Wheaton held a slim 13-10 edge in shots. The Lyons turn their attention to Roger Williams University on Saturday (4 p.m.) in Bristol, Rhode Island.
