PawSox drop Game 1

PAWTUCKET - The first round of the International League playoffs got off to an inauspicious start for the Pawtucket Red Sox Wednesday night at McCoy Stadium as they fell to the Scranton Yankees in Game 1 of their best-of-five series, 7-1.

Pawtucket batters stranded 13 baserunners while PawSox pitching allowed three homer runs in the loss.

Charlie Zink, who earned Most Valuable Pitcher honors for the PawSox in the regular season, pitched into the sixth inning but allowed six runs on eight hits, including a two-run homer to Justin Christian in the fourth and a solo shot to Chris Stewart.

Ben Broussard also went deep for the Yankees, a solo shot in the top of the ninth, while Pawtucket's lone run was a homer by Gil Velazquez. Jeff Natale and Velazquez had two hits apiece for the PawSox.

Steven Jackson got the win for Scranton in relief of starter Chase Wright.
