North Flyers blank Hopkinton
Top Headlines The Flyers took the opening kickoff and promptly marched 61 yards for the game's first points, capped by a 13-yard scoring scamper by Jon Cerrone. In the drive, Tyler Sellner gained 35 yards and Matt D'Attilio rushed for 13 to set up the scoring run by Cerrone. On the TD run, Cerrone got an excellent seal block from big tight end Jimmy David to spring him into daylight. The point after was denied, however, leaving North with an early 6-0 lead. The dominating Flyer defense, led by middle linebacker C.J. Dwyer, simply would not break and managed to keep the zero on the scoreboard. The Raiders mounted a bit of a drive as they drove down to the North 10-yard line. A saving tackle by Sellner kept the Raiders out of the end zone however. After being stopped on their second offense possession, the Flyer defense turned up the heat. Evan Packert and Matt Hardy made big hits and stops and successive sacks by Dwyer, Hardy and Dan Moore quickly gave the ball back to the Flyers. The Flyer offense mounted another long drive as Kyle Grafton and "Lucky" Boudsady did the work driving down to the Raider 20-yard line. A couple of key penalties against the Flyers however, stopped the drive giving the ball back to the Raiders. North's second-half defense was again highlight by the play of Dwyer, Ellis Badger and Colin Quinn as they turned back successive offensive series by the Raiders. A North drive stalled but Hardy unleashed a 35-yard punt down to the Hopkinton 5-yard line to pin the visitors deep in their own territory. Sean Briggs and Packert teamed up for a stop. The Hopkinton QB then went to the air attack. Cerrone tipped an intended pass at the Raider 25-yard line and Sellner scoped it in, in-stride and then out raced the Raider offense into the end zone with North's second score of the day. The North PAT kick was wide however leaving North with a 12-0 advantage. Hopkinton's final attempt to crack the Flyer defense was stopped as David and Boudsady made big hits and tackles and J.T. Kleczkowski stepped in front of a would be Raider receiver to pick off North's second pass of the afternoon and seal the shutout. For the game, Boudsady led the offense with 73 yards rushing, followed by Sellner's 44 yards. Kleczkowski was 2-for-3 passing for 21 yards. The Flyer defense was highlighted by Dwyer's 17 tackles including two sacks. Packert contributed nine tackles. The Flyers travel to Stoughton this weekend for their second game of the season.
