FIELD HOCKEY: Wolfe, Mansfield put bite on Rocketeers
Top Headlines Molly Keogh scored the match-winner for Mansfield at the eight-minute mark of the first half, while Wolfe then set up Erin Keogh for the Hornets' second goal. Mansfield's second goal was a thing of beauty as Michaela Johnson started from deep in the Hornet zone, passed up to Wolfe who then streaked up the field before dishing to Erin Keogh for the goal. The Hornets would have totaled more were it not for a stellar debut in goal for North by freshman Autumn Ivory, who was credited with 25 saves. "We graduated 13 seniors and have only five starters back, so we have some work to do on offense," said North coach Christine Goyette. Playing stellar defense for the Hornets was center-back Chelsea Ballard and sweeper Mila Elich. Also key in getting the Hornet offense going was right back Sarah Marcotte, making her varsity day. The Hornets have a non-league match at home with West Bridgewater Saturday, while North travels to Oliver Ames Monday for its next match. Attleboro 1, New Bedford 0 NEW BEDFORD - Six minutes into the second half, Charlotte Germaine took a nifty crossing pass from Jourdan Childs and tucked home the lone goal of the non-league match as the Bombardiers won their season debut. Carley Barone sparkled defensively for the Bombardiers, in marking, clearing and creating transition. AHS goalie Kendra Sczevroski totaled 16 saves in earning the shutout. Attleboro entertains Somerset High Saturday morning at 10:30 to be preceded by a memorial tribute to late Bombardier Rebecca Whitfield.
