SCHOOL ROUNDUP: D-R's Rose a thorn in ORR's side
MATTAPOISETT - Junior Keith Rose scored all the game's goals as the Dighton-Rehoboth boys' soccer team blanked Old Rochester Regional, 3-0, during Friday afternoon's South Coast Conference season-opener.
Tyler Rosa assisted on two goals while Jacob Soifert assisted on the other. Falcon goalie Tyler Snook had to make just four saves for the shutout.
The Falcons are at Bliss Field on Monday to take on Seekonk.
FIELD HOCKEY
FAIRHAVEN - With a defense that only allowed one shot on goal and an offense that produced five different goal scorers, the Dighton-Rehoboth field hockey team bested Fairhaven, 5-0, in a South Coast Conference season-opener on Friday.
Jenna Rocha had a goal and an assist while Kayla Cartin chipped in two assists. Also scoring goals were Jen Curley, Alexa Cowell, Chelsea Brown and Abbie Woodward while Haley Jackson and Courtney Ulak each had one assist.
The Falcons entertain Apponequet on Wednesday.
VOLLEYBALL
ATTLEBORO - Rallying from a first-game setback, the Attleboro High girls' volleyball team picked up its first win of the season, knocking off Somerset 3-1 on Friday.
After dropping the first game 24-13, the Bombardiers rode a four-point service run by Sarah Parker to a 24-13 victory. In Game 3, Laura Devine had a seven-point service run and finished with five kills in a 25-22 victory. Attleboro (1-1) closed out the match with a 25-11 victory in Game 4.
Attleboro entertains Durfee on Monday.
Old Rochester 3, Dighton-Rehoboth 0
REHOBOTH - The Falcons dropped their South Coast Conference season-opener - 25-10, 25-21, 25-17 - to Old Rochester Regional.
For the Falcons, Meg Roy went 9-for-10 with two aces from the service line and added five kills, Sadie Gosslin went 8-for-8 with an ace and Nicole Hanson went 7-for-8 serving and added three kills. D-R, which started three players with no varsity experience, is at Seekonk on Monday.
Millis 3, Norton 0
NORTON - The Lancers fell to 0-2 to start the season with a Tri-Valley League loss to Millis.
Millis rolled, 25-9, 25-18 and 25-13. The Lancers are at Holliston on Wednesday.
GOLF
ABINGTON - Peter Danko shot an even-par round of 34 at the Strawberry Valley Country Club as the Norton High School golf team edged host Abington, 27 1/2-26 1/2, Friday afternoon.
The Lancers also got fine rounds from Jon Mattos (36) and Sam Phillips (39). Norton (2-0) is at Holliston on Monday. |
