Top Headlines There will be 20 different kinds of beer and spirits, hors d'oeuvres, live music and other events. Tickets for the event are 20 bucks. (508.821.1092) Dining local Highland Country Club is having a wine and food pairing to benefit the Jimmy Find and the Dana Farber Cacner Foundation. It's 6 to 9 Thursday, with wine donated by City Spirits in Attleboro and North Attleboro and Commoinwealth Wine & Liquors. Tickets are 100 bucks and you can get them at the club's Grill Room. They have a new espresso smoothie at Rune's Cafe on the Taunton Green, where they have wi-fi access and live piano. They're having a chili cookoff Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Attleboro Elks Lodge to benefit Markman Children's Programs. It's noon to 5, tickets are 10 bucks, 5 for kids, and it includes live music, a magician, a raffle and an auction. Chli contestants already signed up include Autumn's Cafe, Box Seats, Fresh Catch, Fusion, Jaec's, Morrin's, Raymond Norman Cooks!, Whole Foods Market, Young's Catering and Verizon TelecomPioneers. Monday through Friday, noon to 5:30, you can order off George's Early Meals menu for under 11 bucks at Jimmy's Pub on North Main Street in Downtown Mansfield. (508.339.7167) They have Greek, shrimp and taco pizzas at Will J's on Winthrop Street in Taunton, where they also have a full liquor license. (508.880.5877) The fish and chips are 7 bucks on Friday only at Corinne's on Newport Avenue in Pawtucket. (401.725.4260) The list of restaurants participating in the Tri-Town Chamber's Oktoberfest 5 to 7 Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Mansfield Cross continues to grow. Add to our earlier list Alberto's in Norton; Trattoria della Nona, TGI Friday's, Cook's Fine Wine & Liquor and Merken's Chocolate, all in Mansfield; Picadilly Pub and Edible Arrangements, both in Foxboro; LOCO in Easton and Nature Springs in Needham. Francis Farm in Rehoboth is having a public clambake 6:30 Tuesday, Sept. 23. (508.252.3212) Going North They have $2 Taco Tuesday every week at Tremont 647 in Boston. The menuchanges weekly but the price stayts the same - 2 bucks. (617.266.4600) It's back, chocolate-lovers. The Langham Hotel in Boston reintroduces its Saturday afternoon Chocolate Bar for the 20th season. It runs through June so you'll have plenty of time to catch it in the hotel's Cafe Fleur atrium dining room. Look for, oh, some 125 cocoa-based confections. It's 38 bucks, 20 for kids 5 to 12, and runs 11 to 3. (617.451.1900.x7125) The flavors of the month are featured in the Seasonal Spotlight at Prezza in Boston, with a favorite ingredient showing up in a specially designed appetizer, entree, dessert or cocktail. For September, wood-grilled venison takes center stage served with creamed corn, sweet potatoes and topped with an apple cider reduction. (617.227.1577) On Chestnut Hill they call happy hour at The Metropolitan Club the Sunset Hour. Every day from 4:30 to 6 they offer bites like potato cracklings with sage and truffle, buffalo chicken spring rolls and beef flautas for 4 bucks each. And specialty cocktails are 6 bucks. ( 617.731.0600) Going East The third annual Cape Land and Sea Harvest is Thursday through Sunday, Sept. 28, and is packed with local fishermen and farmers hosting tours, tastings and more. Look for clam digging demos, lobster boat tours, pumpkin picking and hay rides at locations all over the Cape. There will be special harvest-themed menus at Cape restaurants like Wicked Oyster in Wellfleet, Cape Sea Grille in Harwich Port, Blackfish in Truro, Island Merchant in Hyannis, Blue Moon Bistro in Dennis Village, Abbicci in Yarmouth Port and Heather in Mashpee. (capecodclash.org) Going South The fall edition of the Great International Beer Festival is Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence. More than 200 beers will be offered, and there are two sessions: 1 to 4:30 and 6:30 to 10. Tickets are 36 bucks. The 20th annual Taste of Rhode Island is next weekend at the Newport Yachting Center. Ronald McDonald House is holding its annual Oyster Festival 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, in the outdoor courtyard at Hemenway's on Main Street in Providence. Rain date is Sunday, Sept. 28. There's no entry fee but you can buy tickets for oysters, clam cakes, chowder, seafood pasta plus cocktails, wine and beer. (401.274.4447.x27) Wine Down Wednesdays, a wine and food pairing that benefits local nonprofits are held at Fleming's on Exchange Street in Downtown Providence, another Notester favorite, on the second Wednesday of the month. Tickets are 25 bucks. The next one is Oct. 8. (401.533.9000) Al Forno on South Main Street in Providence is having a wine dinner with Amelia Saltsman, author of "The Santa Monica Farmers' Market Cookbook," on Wednesday at 6:30. The five-course meal is 125 bucks. (401.273.9760) On Tuesday, Oct. 14, they're raising money to keep WaterFire burning at a special event at Ruth's Chris Steak House in Providence. There will be food and wine tastings, a silent auction and - get this - you get to light your own WaterFire in Waterplace Basin. Tickets are 150 bucks. (boathousetiverton.com and 401.624.6300) The Rhody chapter of the American Institute of Wine & Food is hosting a Taste of Autumn wine dinner Monday, Oct. 6, at Local 121 on Washington Street in Providence. It's 80 bucks for non-members. (401.683.2490) They have a vegan buffet Saturdays at Rasoi on East Street in Pawtucket. (401.728.5500) They're having a five-course Mastroberardino wine dinner at 7 on Thursday at The Spiced Pear in Newport. It's 150 bucks.
