Roaring 20s roar into city

ATTLEBORO - The Big Read roars into town on Wednesday, with local notables acting as stand-ins for F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, arriving resplendent in elegant 1920s-era dress and chauffeured in a vintage limousine, to celebrate "Scott's" birthday.

He looks remarkably well for 110 years, as you'll see if you keep your eyes peeled that morning or if you happen to be at any of the locations where the car will be stopping around the city.

The special appearance will mark the kickoff to the second annual Big Read/Attleboro's 1 ABC (One Adventure, One Book, One Community) celebration, which will run this fall through Nov. 1.

The "Fitzgeralds" will make stops at Attleboro High School starting at about 8:15, and then Bishop Feehan High School, the Larson Senior Center at 11:30, and winding up at the Attleboro Public Library at noon, with possible additional stops along the way.

"The Great Gatsby," Fitzgerald's best-known work, is the "hot" book that seemingly all of Attleboro is reading now, and everyone will find something enjoyable in a wide range of events centering on themes from the book, which are slated for the next several weeks. In addition, area book clubs have chosen this title for their current discussions, many of which are open to the public. A list of these is available at the library and various other locations.

Be on the lookout on Wednesday for the chance to tip your hat to the lovely Zelda and wish a Happy Birthday to "Scott," considered to be one of America's greatest writers.
